What's Wrong With This Pic!

Featured Replies

I saw this today while driving around. It's kinda hard to see but there is a problem with one of the combos.

Is the baitcaster on a spinning rod?

baitcast reel on a spinning rod?  Really hard to see.

Wow... Idk some folks make honest mistakes..

But that's bound to suck trying to cast... Right?

We were at a red light and actually I was surprised to even see the baitcaster. They are not that common around here.

Honestly, that probably happens a lot more than you think.

Iv seen people using spinning reels with the reel facing up like a caster. Can't be comfortable.

My stepdad has a couple baitcasters on spinning rods. He can cast them every bit as well as a baitcaster rod. Still looks kind of funky though. I don't think I could even try something like that.

I was under the impression the the blank should only bend in a certain direction.

Have seen the same thing.  Really don't understand why anyone would use a spinning reel that way.  Balance must cause fatigue pretty quick.

I think I read that on the interweb...

Some of us never knew a difference in them, I had one like till recently

Yea, I am not a custom rod guy... I have read about a rods spline?... So I am with you..

Maybe a rod materials/ builder might chime in on

that.

Yeah. I've read that they are made to tolerate weight/pressure mostly in that one direction. So using one backwards isn't a very good idea.

A rod can and will bend equally well on any axis. Spine/spline has been largely dismissed as a relevant issue nowadays. Spine is a side affect of the blank rolling process and never was a design feature. The only ones to ever pay any attention to it were custom builders. I doubt any mass production atmosphere allows for such intricate layout procedures. They just use  recipe. Besides looking like a dweeb, the lack of a trigger is hardest part of using a caster on a spinning rod. The overly large guides high up off the rod will make the rod want to twist with a  heavy load on it (anti-spiral wrap) as well.

Thanks for the explanation!

The last person that I saw fishing with a spinning reel on top of the rod was an older lady. My first thought was that someone set her up like that to get some laughs. If I wasn't driving, I would have showed her the correct way.

I actually prefer not having a trigger on casting rods. I generally don't take them off anymore because it voids the warranty and kills any hope of resale, but in the past I have sanded the trigger clean off. Much more comfortable to palm for me.

Last time I saw a b/c it was some tourist bragging about a 5# bass, we asked him if he brought it along for bait.

Hopefully that guy doesn't come across any low flying birds......snap

After reading this it just goes to show anything goes......

One day I saw a guy fishing with a spinning rod upside down.
