How Many Times Do You Wrap Your Improved Clinch Knot?

Featured Replies

I use to wrap mine 7 times...because that is how i was taught when i was growing up. But over the last several years i have tried it all the way down to 4 times and have settled on 5 wraps.

How about yall?

I do 5 if it's thicker line, 7 or 8 if it's lighter line

Between 5 and 7. Just depends on my mood more than anything. But I usually go for 6.

I was always taught 8

I never really counted. Just tied it so often I know what looks right with certain diameter braids and fluoros.

Depends on the line diameter. I don't really count, but with lighter line you need more twists than with larger diameter lines. Thickest line I really use is 15lb and I'll do roughly 6-8 twists. Just make sure it's wet whether it's fluoro or mono so you can really cinch it tight without damaging the line.

This is my favorite part of the forums!!...being able to get so many peoples opinions on something in a relatively short amount of time.

I was taught 7.  Now I've downsized to 6.....because I read that 5 is sufficient for all but smallest lines....and, well....if 5 is good, 6 must be better, right  ...lol

5 for most bass fishing applications, 6 for lines 6lb. and lighter. In 50+ years of fishing, I can count on one hand the number of knot failures that I've experienced.

5 for me, usually i did 6 but 5 is perfect

always 5. never had issues with weak knot strength.

7

7 to 8 but  I might give 5 a try.

I usually wrap about a dozen times.... 20# line only gets about 8 wraps because anything more on the bigger line gets tough to cinch down correctly the first time every time
