Bought some pp 20lb for BC but having second thoughts due to digging in, is this a legit concern?

Very thin line certainly has a propensity for digging into itself.

That's one of the main reasons most people like to use a heavier braid on casting gear.

I use 20 power pro super slick and it doesn't dig in unless you snag and try to pull it on max drag haha but the normal 20lb power pro does dig in....

I think 20 is the "gray area."  Most folks will recommend 30lb or heavier for BC...BUT, we have some board members who have excellent results with 20lb - especially when cranking.  If you do run 20, I'd set your drag to allow slip on the hookset to somewhat reduce the tendency of the line to dig-in.

If you are able, remove the braid that is on this reel now by using another reel to real it off. Then tighten the drag a little bit on the reel that has the braid and run the braid through the guides on the rod that you want it to be on, and then reel it back on the reel that you want it on. This gets the braid on your real very tight. I usually never have a problem with braid when I do it this way.

"normal" PP is a 4 strand that is prone to digging in.  The modern 8 strand braids are highly resistant to spool dig in so I'd try an 8 strand braid before giving up on #20.  Suffix 832 is especially good about not digging in.

there are other factors to consider here too. reels with narrow spools tend to lay the line down at narrower angles, increasing the likelihood of line digging; reels with wider spools can lay line down at broader angles, giving more of a crosswrap effect with less digging. the wormgear driving the line guide also plays a factor...if a reel manufacturer uses the same wormgear for their 5:1, 6:1, and 7:1 reels, you're going to have troubles. higher gear ratio reels need "faster" wormgears. i've learned through experience which reels can work with which lines and some reels i use 15 lb. power pro with no line digging problems, which other reels cannot handle any braid under 50 lb. test.

If you're having problems with 20 lb braid digging in and you HAVE allowed the line proper time to break in, then you haven't made the proper adjustments to use it and should be be using it in the first place. Don't whale on the cast, don't run a super tight drag, and pay attention when freeing a snag. I've been using 20 lb performance braid on over a dozen different casting reels for 9 years now. I spool it tight through a phone book, and then let all of it out behind the boat down to the backing. After a solid 2 to 3 days use its perfectly fine. I agree, the more supple 8 strands work better than original Power Pro. The only braid I've ever had a problem with is Fireline, and its a fused line. Light braid does not dig no matter what. That is false.
