Pflueger Supreme Bail Stuck

Featured Replies

Was testing out the Supreme using TW's demo program. I noticed that at certain points the bail would not full open at a certain point in the turn. I would have to turn a tad more before i could open it fully. Does anyone notice this? Is it just a hitch in the demo or something consistent across all Supremes? If it is any help the only time it doesn't fully click open is right before the bail is upwards facing the rod.

I have myself experienced this with not only the supremes but also the trions and the president  as well, they are still great reels and the little quirk really hasn't bothered me only because it happens so little.

Send it back it shouldn't be that way.  Using it as is won't affect performance but why keep a reel that isn't perfect out of the box.

Why open the bail anywhere but at the top? It sounds like you may be stopping where the trip ramp is on the frame. This would happen with any spinning reel if I understand your description.

it is right before it turns to the top about 10-20 degrees before it is to the top. While using the demo it was very noticeable to me since I don't always wait until the bail is exactly parallel to the rod. I don't have extensive experience with many different spinning reels, but it was just the most noticeable to me. I will check out other reels at the stores to confirm.

Agreed. Most people open the bail when the line roller is next to the rod blank so they can easily grab the line with their finger before casting and so they are not reaching over/around the open bail wire.

Yep... That's my first impression, what everybody else is saying...

Agreed....very confusing problem?

Well I guess it wasn't that obvious to me, but good to know that this is just a normal function.

I'm not sure what you are describing is the bail not always making clearance over the spool, or "stuck" in certain positions not being able to flip it over.  Whatever the case is the reel isn't right.  The bail should be able to opened fully with the spool or handle at any position.  I had Quantum a few months where the bail was scraping the top of spool at the highest point, quantum sent me a new reel.  Especially with a new reel, it should be perfect.

I had a Daiwa Advantage that had the same affliction.

These are the building blocks of the Shimano posse  :wink7:
