Can I Take A Rod Apart?

Featured Replies

I recently broke an Abu vendetta. Instead of using it as a lure retriever I would like to swap its Fuji reel seat with another seat with a cracked locknut. Can I do this? If so is there a video to help me take it apart anyone knows of? Thanks!

Im not 100% but i believe the top lock nur above the real seat is put on prior to adding guides as it wont fit over the trigger

What broke, just the seat? It can be repaired but might be a little too involved for a novice rod builder. If it's a casting rod the guides might be small enough to sneak a new seat over them. A spinning rod will need at least a few guides removed and rewrapped. The broken seat needs to be split lengthwise and pried apart and excess epoxy removed, new arbors made of masking tape, epoxy new seat in place all without damaging the blank.

Can it be done?  Yes.  Can you do it?  Depends.  Is it worth doing?  Probably not.

Well, I suggest Skipping that, it's simply not worth it, if was a IMX or GLX? I would claim warranty and not touch it either. But if you do.. Best of luck to you.

 I agree

Yes.... but can you put it back together?

Spinning or casting?

If casting go and purchase another cheap reel and drill a hole in it's foot and screw it to the rod.

Did this with an old graphite baitcaster by using a Johnny Morris reel and it works fine.

Spinning?  No idea but if you decide to do this you will probably have to screw both reel feet to the rod.

Just buy a new rod. They break. That's part of fishing

Abu has great customer service. Just send it back and they will send you a new rod.
