A few days ago my dog bit one of our cats and would not let go, lucky it was a fluffy cat and he only got a mouth full of fur.

He is 13 years old now and is a pekingese, we have 5 cats that all stay indoors and the dog is inside and outside.

Used to the only way he would bite you is if you tried to take food from him, but now if one of the cats gets close he takes a shot at them.

Do y'all think its just from old age? He also has bad eye sight if that means anything. I'm scared he is starting to get senile and doesn't really know what he is doing.

He is a healthy dog for his age and still runs around like a puppy.

Guess it could be senility, or perhaps increasing blindness. If you allowed him to bite you if you took food away from him he might be being taken by surprise when the cats come close and biting because it hasn't been hard wired into him not to bite.

Probably worth having the vet check him out to make sure it's not something more serious.

It is hard to say what the issue could be, age, eye-sight, senility, something hurts, not feeling well....

 

Are you sure what the cat was doing before the incident? Cats are not always well behaved.

 

Wouldn't worry to much unless it continues, then it may be time for a trip to the vet to let them do an exam.

I haven't had that problem since high school, oh how times have changed.

 

Seriously though, my grandmother had a pekingese that got that way when it got old.  It just didn't take crap from anyone anymore and would bite and snap at people when it didn't want to be messed with.  It just got ornery  Be careful if kids are ever around the dog.

 

my fiancé had a pekignese that when it got old didn't like anyone being around and would snap and bite them if they got too close.  he only liked a few people and miraculously i made the cut which is good because little dogs or even big dogs for that matter that bite me get punted and his old body couldn't have handled it  

I'd say, that after all those years, he decided it was about time he had a little "kitty".
