Most bass in VA will never have the opportunity to hang out in 15+ FOW haha

Hmm, what if I was over 20+ feet of water but the fish bit just a couple feet below the surface?

Smallmouth was in  deep water 20-25 fow.

 

Largemouth was mid-depth water 10-15 fow.

I don't understand......Off the top of my head, other than Back Bay, I can't think of any larger bass lakes in VA that don't have bass holding below 15' the last couple months.   I suppose for lots of tidal waters, that's probably got some truth

I'm just thinking about all of the rivers and small lakes that we have in VA, big lakes are few and far between. Depends on what is considered "big" though

Similar to Bluebasser86 - my LMB PB bit in 18 fow....but the fish was higher in the water column, probably at about 6-8 feet max.

I caught my PB throwing a topwater over a gravel road bed.  The water was probably 3 ft. deep.

Shallow waters. A little less than 10 both largemouth and smallmouth.

Like many others, mine was caught in less than 10 feet of water (about 7 feet, in front of a dock).  However, for the lake she was in, that would be considered medium, not shallow.

 

For her to get deeper than 12 feet, she'd have to burrow like a groundhog.

I have Two answers as well.

This thread would have been better if you removed the numbers, a lot of people fish places that never get 10 foot... So 10 feet might be deep in one lake.
