I have two Citicas and I love them. I've never used a Revo S though so I can't comment on it.

I have a Citica and I love it. I heard of some issues regarding the Revo S's reliability, and I wanted to give Shimano a try. Assuming the Citica proves to be durable, I will be picking up another one next year. Great reel. Fits perfect in my palm, if that matters to you.

I have both. My opinion is both are excellent reels. I find myself using the Revo S more, though my opinion is biased towards Abu Garcia so take it with a grain of salt. No reliability issues with the Revo S or the Citica but I haven't had the chance to use either of them extensively. My vote is for the Revo S.

Feature for feature the Revo S probably has the edge on paper. Real world performance wise they are very close. I've read of some reliability issues with the Gen 3 Revos but have not experienced them personally or in a significant number of customer reels.

My revo s is a horse. Took a bit of adjustment for me.( and some advice from this very forum), I was used to lew's reels, but boy oh boy, once I dialed that girl in... Very nice. Haven't fished a citaca yet.

I had problems with my Revo S. The brake blocks kept turning themselves on during the cast killing the distance. Went through 3 of them and ended up returning it. I'd go with the Citica.

I have a citica e. I use it on my squarebill rod. The braking system works flawless and when setup right it will sling the squarebills a long way. The reel isn't as smooth as others I have, but it's been rock solid and never given me any trouble at all. I can honestly say it's a pleasure to fish with all day.

You may wanna check out daiwa tatula also. It's in the same price range as the citica and is a very nice reel for the money. It's a tad bigger framed reel than the citica though.

I have both and they're about equal. I haven't tried the Gen 3 revo but my gen 1 and 2 are great reels.

I've used all 3 generations of the revo. I really liked the first 2. Very smooth and solid reels. A little heavy by today's standards, but they were great when I had them. I didn't care for the 3 though. Not that it was a bad reel, I just didn't care for the way it felt in my hands for some reason. Plus I don't like white gear. I had a citica g a while back as well. Real world performance wise, they are all close. If it's between the 3rd s and the citica g, I would probably go with the citica. Older versions of the s, I'd go with those. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong

If it is the new generation, the Revo maybe slightly better.  I look at this way, the Citica is just a good basic reel that just keeps doing it's job.  On the other hand, when you put the Citica in your hand, it's seems cheaply made compared to the Revo S.  I think overall though, based on long term use, I would go with the Citica.  

Personally I'd go with the Tatula over both. Google all the issues people have had with the S and STX brakes turning themselves on. Tatula/Citica best two choices.

I'll say this. I still own bantam curados I bought 12 yrs ago and they are still great reels. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a citica or a couple.

You can't go wrong with Shimano.
