Is It Legal To Have A Hand Gun In Your Boat In Illinois?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I live in Southern Illinois and was trying to find the laws in illinois regarding having a hand gun in your fishing Boat/Canoe/Kayak just for protection, not concealed just in the boat somewhere.

I have a FOID card, but not a concealed carry.

Also, do the laws differ depending upon for example if im at Crab Orchard Lake which is a National Refuge  managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service verses somewhere like Rend Lake which is a State Fish and Wildlife Area managed by the Illinois Department of Resources?

I've done some google searches and cant really find a definitive answer except, it always states check with your local and state agencies.

Thanks in advance for any help

Matt

Take the advice of the google searches and call your state agencies.  You don't want to be wrong on something like this.

I agree.  Especially with how much IL has changed in the last year.

if its goverment owned id assume same standards as a government post office.  but htese guys are right  id call around a couple places make sure. wouldnt want to be wrong and suffer consequences

Can you apply for a permit to carry concealed in IL?   Cant go wrong by having it, even if you dont need it.

Here in NH if you do not have a permit to carry it must be in the wide open view,  even if you drop a fishing rag over it while it is sitting on top of your fishing bag, without a conceal permit you would be considered illegal. A permit is easy to obtain here in NH.   MA is a different story.

The fact that you need a foid card to own a gun is reason enough to not live there...

However i digress...call the local magistrate and ask.

Quick question...can you have a loaded gun without a CC in your car or truck in IL? If not then there is your answer

No and gun in the trunk, ammo in the back seat or vice versa.

OP, apply for a permit and take the 16hr class.

  1. I am from Ohio and go to Nebraska 2-3 times a year. I have a CCW and by law I am not allowed to conceal carry in the wonderful state of Illinois. I am required to break down and transport thru the state with gun and ammo separated by means I must exit vehicle to put the 2 together. Only way I know of is to do it like the criminals do....Illegally.

No open carry here in IL either.

I thought that SCOTUS slapped down Illinois concerning concealed carry?
