most places where the smallmouth species is present, they are allowed to be weighed-in in a tournament.

I'm up in Canada and smallmouth are fished just as much if not more than largemouth

thats great man haha i never knew that! thanks for the info. learn something new everyday...

Here in NH, smallmouth or largemouth can be weighed in during a tournament, since both are prevalent

I think that in most places the average size largemouth outweighs the average size smallmouth. Largemouth usually get bigger as well. Im not saying you cant win a tourney with smallies or largemouth. On average largemouth are bigger and there is a greater opportunity to catch larger fish which is exactly what pros/tourney guys are fishing for.

yeah man, thats true.

Lake st clair, bay de noc, Great Lakes, st Lawrence seaway, etc etc are all won with smallmouth bags not largemouth. Northern tourneys are generally smallmouth tourneys.

Monsterquest tourney on st clair today was won with a 5 fish limit of just over 28lbs of smallmouth. 4th place was 24lbs 12 oz.

Awesome fishery.

Where did you find the results for this tourney? I've been looking all over for the fall Monsterquest results. St Clair is awesome right now

Not a pro, but I generally lay the smackdown fishing smallies wherever they are present.

My partner Jordon, showing off two nice ones, from a win on Erie:

All our tournaments include Largemouth and Smallmouth.

If its on Pickwick Lake Tn end of Al end. More times then not smallmouth bags are what wins out.

Now for your question, Way to many anglers would rather fish where the largemouth bass are then fish for the smallmouth bass. That or they have not caught the browns and are stuck on the bucket mouths. Again at Pickwick I have culled largemouth bass for smallmouths a few times in Club Tournaments years ago. Fish would be about the same length., but the browns are like a football. Thick and heavy here!!
