On A Scale Of 1-10

Featured Replies

berkley lightning rod 7' medium heavy casting stick. for a cheap rod what would you rate it on a scale of 1-10? got mine for 30$ and i think its a well put togeather and feels great.

I haven't used any of the casting versions of the lightning rods, but I will give my 6'6" medium spinning rod a 7/10. It feels great but the construction leaves some to be desired. I am interested in the Lightning Rod Shock. I like the handle and reelseat better than my older Lightning Rod. I am going to pick one up next time I am in BPS.

Compared to what?  I'll use my Avid ACV70MHF as an honest "8" for reference.  That would put the Berkley at about a "3" or "4".  I bought the exact stick while on a family vacation, and for what I payed was pretty satisfied with it.  It sure beats fishing with nothing, right?  What I'm getting at here, it matters little what others think - you've got it and you like it.  It will serve you well.

You paid too much.  Got mine for $17 + tax.  :teeth:

I've never used anything other than a spinnerbait on mine.  It is a 6' MH.  Works very well for that.  I'm like Mr Franco.  If I rate it against my Rainshadow RX 7 or black Cumara, then quality of components suffers.  I don't know how sensitive it would be for bottom contact baits, but there is absolutely no problem with a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait with a Colorado blade.  Even the reel vibrates.  : :eyebrows:

My Berkley Lightning Rod LR16 5´6" has caught maybe 70% of all the 10+ lb fish I´ve caught including my first 10+ and my PB.

wow so these lightning rods seem promising huh? i definetly like mine, my PB is 4lbs but i ddn't catch it on my lightning rod.

I had one in my kayak for inshore fishing. It has handled the environment and abuse admirably. I've caught some pretty monster fish on it and it never has given me a lick of trouble.

I've had it a few long years now and the foregrip cork is starting to go. Still 100% functional. Not bad at all for $30.

It is a tiny bit heavy though and I recently got another $30 rod- the field and stream inferno- to replace it. ....and it is performing well also! And much lighter!

Was my first casting rod along with a bps Pq reel. Used it a lot and sold it off. Still being used by a friend years later.

Well, in order to rank a rod from 1 to 10, I think you need to fish with a 10 sometime.

very true haha, i'll do that when i get some 10 money. or find a deal.

I have several Falcons, several older All Stars and 2 Lightening Rods, as much as I try to use the more expensive rods I find for some applications the Lightening Rods are more comfortable for my use. They aren't as pretty but they do preform. Just my 2 cents. Heck it they catch fish and you land it , it's a 10.

Universally as a whole vs every rod I've fished, probably a 2-3

In the 50$ and below range, it's probably a 9 or 10.

For $30, you can't go wrong.

This is a very astute observation and EXCELLENT reply! Obviously there is a huge market

at this pricing point and it is difficult to find fair comparisons. I think you have done a great

job with this post.
