I am a little confused about size of treble hooks. for a strike king 2.5 what would I use? thanks for any imput.

It depends on the hooks you plan to use.   I use a size 1 short shank.

The 2.5 bait stock hook is size 2 but the bait takes nicely to the plus 1 size upgrade.

Size 2's but you can get away with 1's with short shanks.

On my 2.5's I change the stock hooks out to #2 Mustad KVD Elite 1x strong, 2x short triple grips. I do up-size my hooks on some cranks (lipless, and deep divers) but I do not on square bills or jerkbaits...........why?? IDK............that's just my way.

I use ST36 Owners #2.

Fisher, great question.

Do you know that when the pros modify their crankbaits they usually up size the front hook by one size?

They don't tell you they do that and we continue to take the cranks out of the package and throw them with no modifications.

So regarding your query all I can add is for you to select the brand of the treble hook you like and go one size up on the front hook for your crankbaits.

Try the lure first, most run and perform good with stock hooks. I only change treble hooks if they are poor quality, damaged or not sharp and if I loose bass. Changing treble hooks because pro bass angler claim they do isn't a good reason.

The Yo-Zuri 3D Vibe for example comes with hooks that look too small, they work great out of the box.

Yea I agree with WRB.. If they need hooks, replace them, my squarebills by Xcalibur come with strong sharp hooks, no need to replace them. When I need to it's the older Mustad Tripple grips or Owner needle points.. But I don't just change for sake of changing.
