With a nod to Felix' thread, but not wanting to jack it, I'd like thoughts on one line for both ARIG and Swim Baits (up to 6 in.) on same outfit.

I'm thinking 30 or 40# braid.

 

 

How heavy of a rig and in what cover? I can see going as high as 80# braid. Probably 65# at the lightest. 

65lb braid for both.

Ive used too small braid and its snapped without ease throwing the A rig or getting one un hung... You want enough to straighten the hooks out if it gets stuck in stumps or brushpiles..

I used to throw my a-rigs on braid but I switched to 25 lb P-Line CXX and it is much better for the a-rig. The a-rig is thrown so much here on Pickwick and Wilson that it seems the fish won't eat it as much when you throw braid. Me and my partner threw the same rig with the same weight heads and same swimbaits and he used P-Line CXX and I used braid and he outcaught me 5:1. You can also throw swimbaits on this line if you wanted to. But for me, I throw my Basstrix and Shadilicious on 20 lb fluoro. BTW the 25 lb P-Line CXX has bent several hooks out for me, and if you know how to work an a-rig when it gets hung it's very easy to get off. I hardly ever lose any.

Define 6" swimbaits. Are you talking paddle tail style like the basstrix or actual swimbaits that weigh in the 2oz range like a 6" hud? I'm assuming the second option since you are asking about the a rig and those aren't real light when fully rigged. I use #25 Cxx on my swimbait setup. Some guys like braid for theirs. Usually #80

I use 20-25lb copolymer for both those baits. A hard cast and backlash with either of those baits (assuming you're talking about swimbaits like a 6" Hudd), will most likely result in a lost bait if you fish braid.
