Well, this is going to be my First post!

 

Question for you fellas, Ive been having issues fitting my President spinning reel. havent really liked it since I got it, casts slap a lot of various rods, It seems to kind of set the line into a tornado shape on the spool. Ive been fishing for over 20 years and never seen a reel fit line like this, ive tried various ways to fit the line without it going into a V shape on the spool. Anyone know why this is?

 

-with and with out the rod i have done it, through a book, and with a buddy of mine, round a tree, changing the positioning of the line-holder. Still no proper fit. hmmm. Im trying to fit 10lbs y-hybrid line on it. 6 ft 6 fenwick medium fast rod.

IMO, that line has too much memory and is too heavy for that reel, not sure it would cause what you're seeing though. I have 3 Presidents and my only complaint is that they don't come with a spare spool. We have some resident reel experts that I'm sure can diagnose the issue from your description and picture though. 

Its actually the

MODEL # 6940X version of this reel. 8-10-12 lbs test. I had the trilene XL smooth casting 12 lbs on it before and actually spooled better. But you ARE correct with this memory, I actually was about to toss this y-hybrid line out lol. What line would you recommend for stick baits, flukes, etc for this reel? 8-10 lbs test. Thanks buddy.

If it were me in the same situation, I'd be looking at 20-30 pound Sufix 832 or Power Pro Super Slick braid with whatever weight leader you need for the cover you're fishing. 

Yeah I got a bunch of that too, I may end up switching after I actually see how this pans out, if not, suffix braid is going directly onto this reel. I dont think ill use y-hybrid for main lines. may be for leaders though.

A softer line.. 8 even 10 Pline CX not CXX, Silverthread is a soft easy to handle line and performs well. Been down that road before 10 years ago with # 10 yo on a 4000 diawa emblem, it's not the deal for spinning... Not to bad in # 4 or 6 but even at 8 it's a slinky off the spool.. Not sure about your winding issues, if it's new I would swap it out. I use a 35 and it doesn't wind like your pic..

Thanks for the tip Skippy! I heard the P-line looses a lot of jigs etc, so im using it specifically for wacky rigging, weightless stuff, etc. But then again. All about that proper knot.

Your problem is not normal with president reels.  IMO your reel is too large for a bass but that doesn't mean you can't use, I would be using 15# braid or 8# mono or copoly myself.  Your problem is not a line issue but a spool stacking problem, the spool is sitting too low.  The solution is adding washers on the spool spindle to raise the spool higher, your reel is pretty severe.

You can make your own washers or if the reel didn't come with any call Pure Fishing and they will send you the correct ones.  I don't it's worth sending the reel back to Pure Fishing considering shipping, but they may just replace the reel for you.

He's right. You need to add to the spool spacer stack. You should be able to find thin nylon washers at the hardware store. If you find line stacking on the opposite end you've added too much. 

Thats really weird, I took off the the spool last night, and there was 1 washer on the bottom, and the piece that kind of looks like a "hat" that sits on the thin pole where the spool goes on to. Its my only spinning reel and getting more anyway, but its just weird! 

A couple more soft mono lines to also consider are Sufix Elite and Sunline Super Natural.  Sufix Siege is a bit harder, but may also work.  Although it coils after sitting awhile (as does any mono) it doesn't cause problems with the first few casts like Big Game does for me.

 

I know a lot of people prefer braid on a spinning reel, but I still prefer how mono handles when casting.

Yeah I really like mono for really light weights for plastics like flukes and weightless worms-tubes etc. and top water, to me it gives more of a smoother FLOW in the water, with braid, it just moves when you move hence no stretch, Which is why I like braid for punching, and heavier applications like big worms t-rigs, jigs, etc. that I do aside from the really light weight stuff. I def do braid with heavier cover. Top water I like mono esp for walking the dog, and poppers since braid can coil up fast and wrap around the treble hooks. 

 

Although, I do have suffix siege smoke color on one of my bait casters and its great, I still tend to use rattle traps, carolina rigs,  top water, and heavy t-rigs with it. No issues yet, and super strong line. 

As others have stated, I would find a spacer or two (see pic below) to put on the spool and maybe go with some lighter, softer line and some KVD line conditioner.

 

I will gladly take that yo-hybrid off ya if you're getting rid of it.

Haha, I keep everything I buy! Unless I truly don't want it. But other than that I did some research and it could be a combo of washer issue with the type of line.

The yo-zuri soft is for spinners. Berkly xl is a lot better for handeling.

I dont mind the XL Line at all.

Well fellas, still no luck on the president, But I manage to try the Yozuri on one of my baitcasters, its def way better managing. Got it on my lews, and abu MH 7ft. Can cast really well with it, And flip really good.
