Another Texas Rig Hook Question

I have an old box of size 1 Eagle Claw  Worm style 44. These are like the tru turns that are suppose to turn on the hook set. Anyway , Ive had these for years and forgot about them. Just recently found them. Any of you ever use this hook? If yes, what was your impression ? Pros and cons .

I refuse to tie on any Eagle Claw Hook!

I fished with a guy that used these (or something very similar). We were fishing big worms and creature baits. I couldn't get a hook set to save my life. Neither could my friend. I think he hooked one. I switched up to Gammy EWG's and had much better hook ups.

I've used them and they don't seem to rip GY Senkos up as bad as other hooks. They are not Tru-Turns, but consistent in that design. One of my friends uses them exclusively. Brian.

Why is that? You don't like the products or did the company tick you off? lol... Just wondering

Oh yes, I've seen and used them indeed! Back in the 70's, Al & Ron Lindner (along with Bill Binkleman), published the "Big Fishing Book", which was distributed in paperback FREE to "Fishing Facts" magazine subscribers. This was to encourage fishing in the mid-west and kick off the basic In'Fisherman philosophy. In that book, they introduced their "worm hook". Here's what it looked like:

The Eagle Claw just "curbed" it a bit and had a different eye configuration, but this basic hook from the Lindner's was, and still is, the pattern most modern worm hooks emulated from. You just had to sharpen them constantly! I still have a bunch in an old tackle box in the attic! :)

I find them very dull compared to owner, Gami and VMC hooks and they almost run for the same price!

I have some eagle claw and can't say I have had a problem with them. And I find them everywhere and for far cheaper than all the others. I have no brand loyalty when it comes to hooks because I haven't been let down by any specific hooks. I have eagle claw for the cheap hooks, then Vmc, gamakatsu, and decoy hooks for the midrange and owner, Trokar, and daichii for the high end hooks. All work and haven't had to sharpen a hook in a while.

The metal is weak, the points roll, & they bend to easy!

Hmm, the eagle claws I have I like. I like their cutting point EWG's.

They very recently revamped almost their entire hook lineup. I use to hate their hooks as well but their new hooks are quality products.

Eagle Claw is the same company that makes Trokar's, I've heard they're a fairly decent hook  :eyebrows: , so they obviously know how to produce a good hook.
