Do You Have A Good Luck Charm Or Any Superstitions?

Featured Replies

  • Super User

Growing up in south Louisiana, my Cajun grandmother taught me many superstitions.

With bass fishing the only one I really enforce is "no bananas in the boat."

Right now the only other superstition is that if something is going good for my sports team while watching the game on TV I will not move or change positions until something messes up.

I also don't move any furniture, paper, pens, books, furniture, etc. as long as the team is doing well.

Just one of those old south Louisiana things.

I have a shirt that I was wearing when I caught my two biggest bass and a pike in. I doubt it was the shirt, but I still like wearing it for fishing. It

Its the shirt. Never take it off. Never wash it.

If you wash it all of the luck will wash out.

I'm with Snook and Lou. No superstitions.

But I'm also with Blue! I remember once getting

to my fishing destination with all my gear except

my tackle bag. Glad my wife had to run errands,

she was kind enough to drop it off.

  • Super User

Nope, I just bring my gear.

No superstitions  or lucky things whatsoever. Never have believed in that. Half the time I'm not even certain what I'll end up fishing for. Carry enough tackle to handle everything from crappie to bass to walleye to wipers on most trips. If I start for one thing and run into another, that works, too. Anymore, whatever bends the pole the best that day is what I'm catching most trips.

I have no superstitions.

The root of all superstition is that men observe when a thing hits, but not when it misses.

I had only one superstition.  I made sure to touch all the bases when I hit a home run.

Some of you guys are true killjoy's, lol

I believe ( not superstitiously) this thread was in jest... At least from my perspective.

LOL.  Sorry.  I didn't mean to be a killjoy.  I just wanted to throw out some interesting quotes.  I thought the one by Babe Ruth was quite humorous.  (If it is actually true that he said it.   I didn't research to confirm.)

I'm playing! I wasn't referring to your post anyway.. I musta been replying, lol.. It's all good..

I don't bring an umbrella on board. I also don't allow any bears on the boat.

My astrologer says it's bad luck to believe in superstitions.

My Ohio state hat... I was wearing it last night as well.

Im not superstitious at all but I hate catching a fish on the first cast. I did that once and didnt catch another fish .

Well, if you hadn't gone home after that first cast, you might have had a shot to catch a few more...

My best day numbers-wise started with a fish on my first cast and ended with a fish on my last cast (from the dock after I had loaded everything else up).  I was tempted to make another cast, but felt like it was a perfect ending to a great day.

The only superstition I have is that I believe it is good luck to skip a Senko under a dock where some hot blonde is sunbathing topless...

Reminds me of an article I read in Field and Stream a few issues ago: http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/fishing/2014/08/hat-tricks-find-your-next-lucky-fishing-lid

I think a Bears hat would work just like a stinkbait, no?   :laugh5:   Just kidding haha

Where I come from, Dem Der are fightin words Pal! ;) ;)

It seems that I always get my best bites while my hat/visor is on backwards.I almost always wear it backwards now and it seems to help lol.

I have a buckeye and  a lucky bucktail lure! I always carry it in my pocket not a luck thing its just what i do.

I do have a lucky charm...it's the lure on the end of my line.

Bring it with me every time I hit the water.

Letting the net see too much daylight.  I NEVER keep a net on the deck.  It is always stowed.  It is so dumb, because it is a pain in the a** to open the storage to get the net, then open the net, all with 1 hand while fighting a fish.  One day I'll lose a monster bass while fumbling around trying to get the net ready.  Then I'm sure it'll bbe a superstition that I need to have the net out at all times.  But for right now, I keep the net stowed.  If I need it, I take it out and net the fish, then it goes right back into storage.

If I cast my bait and it ricochets off the ice, I know I'm going to have a bad day.

No bananas on my boat.

No bananas on my boat unless accompanied by a monkey.

I sort of fit that description, lol.

This past year while looking through photos I noticed all of my biggest fish I was wearing the same shirt. These photos are over 3 years

I have a St. Croix hat that has seen alot of action. Mainly I just make sure never to leave without some sort of soft plastic in junebug or christmas color. I always seem to have a bad day when I dont at least have it as an option to throw.

Additionaly, I beleive that the difference between a good angler and a great angler, is that the great one creates his own luck.

Good luck charms: my lucky hat, 50 cal. bullet, and ALWAYS eat lucky charms cereal before every tourney.

superstitions: no bananas, women, and pork.
