Wacky, Or Texasrig

Featured Replies

Is a Wacky Rig or a Texas Rig better? I fish around a lot of wood.

It really depends on conditions. There is no real answer hear. To me, they are two different things.

You could use ethier, I Texas rig my plastic here and don't really mess with wacky because there is a lot of grass...

I assume the question is in regards to senko's, so my answer is.....it depends.

if you are fishing around cover t-rig, if more open water wacky. The issue with wacky is the exposed hook. Otherwise the two presentations are interchangeable.

Both are better. Depends on the situation and what the fish want. If you're oging ot fish a wacky rig around wood I would stronlgy recommend getting a weed guard. It helps a lot to prevent hang ups in my experience.

So if I fish where their's lots of grass, don'y wacky rig?Every pond and lake in Delaware,is full of grass and weeds.

I fish wacky-rigged senkos around thick grass, logs, branchs. I just used a weedless hook. Not quite as weedless as a T-rig but I have much more success wacky rigging senkos.

I fish wacky rigs everywhere, including lots of grass. I've found that weightless plastics can be one of the best presentations to use around grass and algae as they will sit on top more than rigs that use a weight. Don't get me wrong, I have caught plenty of fish using jigs and t-rigs in vegetation, but when thats not working, or all I'm doing is pulling up salad each time I cast out, I will usually try something weightless to see if that 1. gets bites, and 2. doesn't cover my lure in weeds.

When I said I don't fish wacky around grass its because I just prefer to fish a Texas rig in grass because I feel it goes in and out of the grass better and has a better action. If you want to fish wacky in grass then go for it, plenty of people do.

You can buy wacky weedless hooks. I know owner makes them.

I like a Texas rig more around wood most of the time.

I guess I am kind of like everyone else, I Texas rig Senkos when the risk of getting hung up is high and Whacky rig them

with Gamakatsu Weedless Whacky rig hooks the rest of the time.

While I do not have scientific data, I feel like I get more bites when I whacky rig but have a better hooking ratio when I Texas rig.
