Things You Have Seen/heard Of Bass Eating

Featured Replies

Hey all, I was wondering what things people have seen bass eat. Not normal things, like shad or crawfish, but things that are more unusual, like sunfish/perch, catfish, snakes, frogs, etc.

Coolest thing I ever saw was a bass literally jump onto land in the swamp while chasing a frog. I put him back in the water, amazed.

I can remember  a snake , turtle, and a mouse in different bass I've caught .

I remember reading a long long time ago in Out door life. A guy catches a bass, lands it , picks it up buy the lips, and gets bit by a baby water mococine . Bass had just eaten the snake. fisherman survived. That had to be in the 60's.

I was fishing with a friend of mine and he caught one about 3 and a half with a baby alligator in its mouth. It was partially digested.

I've seen bass try to eat spinner baits, plastic worms, wooden crank baits, metal spoons, all kinds of crazy stuff!

I've seen one slurp a duckling but that's all I've got.

I caught one with a baby turtle in it's throat, one with a bird tail and feet sticking out of it's throat, and I had a Table Rock spot throw up a still live salamander.

One day I was fishing Hopkins Prairie in the Ocala National Forest and I saw this bird land on a cattail about 8 inches above the water line and a bass jumped out of the water trying to eat the bird but missed it.

This is a fishing related item, but I once read Shaw Grigsby saying that a bass once jumped out of the air and engulfed his buzzbait before it hit the water. I thought that was pretty awesome.

December 2013 I witnessed the biggest bass I have ever seen (looked to be over 10lbs it dwarfed my 8#) blow up out of the water and grab an adult duck that was swimming about 10 ft from me while I was catfishing darn thing landed on my line that was out haha. It was down right insane

Was watching a fishing show this past weekend and they caught a 4lb bass that had a tail sticking out of it's mouth....they pulled out a 14" crappie.

Caught a bass using catfish dough bait one time. I have caught cats on crankbaits, but this was a first for me.

Nothing too absurd for me but I caught maybe a two pound bass in the fall two years ago and when I landed him about a dozen LIVE 1/2 inch shad/minnows exploded out of his mouth and were flopping around the boat. Must have been swimming around with his mouth open vacuuming up everything in sight!

I've caught a lot of bass on chunks of cutbait while bass fishing for catfish. One of my biggest I've ever caught out of one lake was on a bluegill head I was dragging along a deep weed edge.
