Does anyone know if the smell of sharpie ink on a lure can at times, be a fish deterrent? 

Title shouldve read "Lures" not skirts.

Have you been doing "custom paint" on you lures? And idk. I pour my own jigs and paint them with finger nail polish. That doesn't deter them.

Have you ever smelt skirts when they come out of the package? I don't think it will matter.

I use red nail polish to freshen up lures/hooks that get woren out over time. I was worried about the smell, but after trial and error see no difference in fish ratios.

I thought that as well. We pour in the summer and allow them to dry in the hot sun. They dry right up with no issues. I can't tell you how much me and the old man have saved over the last 15 years. I'd pour, trim, sand, and paint while he'd do the rubber work. Probably 1000s of fish over the years.

I used a red sharpie on a Summer Craw Paca Craw, putting just a few small marks on it.  After a few days the color seemed to really "grow" into the bait. It got less vibrant and looks awesome.  Its been on my work bench for about 2 weeks now and i smelled it and there is no sharpie smell anymore.  IT just has the regular paca craw stink, but it looks custom and really neat. I wouldnt shy away from it. And if worst comes to worst, put some garlic scent on it after.  MOst garlic scents are strong enough to mask the sharpie I would think.

I've been playing with spike it markers this winter and after a couple of days the plastics absorb the ink and look really cool. I'm thinking about buying a pack of sharpies to play with .

i'm one of those guys.  i like to take a red sharpie and fill in the gill lines on hardbaits that mimic baitfish.  can't say if it helps anything at all, but it doesn't seem to hurt.

It's only an issue for odd numbered serial numbers. The serial # is stamped inside the cap.

i gave up on that years ago b/c I had too many problems w/ marker and nail polish melting/fusing together w/ my soft plastics. it can make a nasty mess in the summer so i wouldn't recommend pre-painting too many.
