Rod For Under $80

Featured Replies

Just got a Lews BB1 Pro and need a good rod to pair it with for under $80. I'm pretty new to the baitcasters so I need some advice. What would all you pros recommend?

These are the imo the best rods in their price range.

$40 berkley Lightning Rod

60 Diawa Jupiter (Walmart)

70 cabelas tournament ZX

80 abu vendetta/veritas

100 *** black

I have all these rods except the veritas. I do have the vendetta tho. I like getting stuff at a discount, so I would look around on websites like tackle warehouse, bps, cabelas, acedemy.. And also look at the clearance section at Walmart. I got my Jupiter for cheap at Walmart and its a descent Rod. Amazing for the price. I like all I listed but it pretty much goes in order of what I like the most from expensive to cheaper. Other good brands are duckett, falcon, Fenwick, Denali, powell.. Look on here and you'll find lots of post about rods in every price range.

The bass pro extreme was on sale for 79 online last I checked. I think they are a pretty fair rod for the price.

I'd save 20 and get an ***. And if you don't want to you can get a vendetta for 50 at Walmart think. Not 80. The ZX is an amazing Rod for 70. probably my 2nd favorite. It was on sale tho. And as for the specs.. Get a Rod around 7 foot Medium Heavy, Fast action.

I just ordered a Daiwa Lexa rod from Gander Mountain. I have never held or used one, can't tell you for sure if it is good or bad. I found a few good comments out there about them, they have a 5 yr warranty, and come in a good selection of models.

I ordered the 7'2" MH/Regular action rod for reaction baits. I couldn't pass up the deal, they are on sale for 49.99, and you get a 10 gift card back. Add something to bump your total to 50 and you get free shipping. Use coupon code gmt5 and you 5 more off it seems for every 50 you spend.

Tournament ZX. Bought a whole stack of them. They have a new line this year called the ZX Crankshaft that's composite.

Is this going to be a multipurpose rod or are you wanting it for a specific technique?

You could take a look at erkley lightning rod shock series, halo starlight and daylight series. All very nice light balanced rods under $80. I fish all three ad really like them a lot I'm kinda digging the micro guides on the halo rods tho.

Try fleabay, you can get a nice rod for really cheap, I picked up a brand new Duckett macro magic 6'6" MF for $91 shipped.

If I was you I would look for a first series veritas. They usually can be found around $70, or a halo daylight is a nice option.

Yea I agree I have two of these for spinnerbaits and that kind of thing.

Powell Diesel all the way! Good cork, good guides and quality build for $80! Better than those cheap Abu rods that fall apart in a season.

Fenwick HMX is around $80.
