Title says it all! I'm completely new to swim jigs so I'm just looking for some advice on things like brand, when and where to fish, and what time of year are they good for? Any help would be much appreciated!

Swim jigs opened a whole new world to me when the realization hit me that this one bait, maybe more than nearly any other allows me to target the entire water column (below the surface action.) 

caught this 4.5lber 2 weeks ago on a siebert outdoors swimjig.  fishing it in the same places i would normally toss a spinnerbait.

 

I just picked up six 1/4 ounce swim jigs from Seberts. I can't wait to fish them. I just got started with swim jigs last year but I didn't have a great hook up ratio. I watched the video above where Tom says to just keep reeling but that didn't seem to work for me. The fish were just probably swatting at it that day.

Awesome info guys I've used a bladed swim jig so I'm sure there's not a HUGE difference between them but I want to start using them

if the trailer on the jig has little to no action, like a craw fatty shake your rod tip to give the jig action. if you are using a swimbait (my favorite is the Kitech Swing Impact fat) as a trailer just retrieve the jig like a spinnerbait and don't be afraid to throw in a rod twitch now and then.

Gambler Lures HC Swim Jig with a EZ swimmer for a trailer! Killer combo if you ask me. In grass lakes I like the back n' blue and green pumpkin and when fishing around wood cover I like Shad patterns. Keep it simple and just go fish it. That's the only way how to learn how to use any style jig. Best of luck.

What are your swim jig colors for the various seasons ? ... I'm guessing shad colors in late summer , fall and winter and bluegillcolors  in spring thru mid - summer ?

I'm a BIG fan of the Siebert Outdoors Bluegill, too. I rig this

with either a Rage Tail Menace, Structure Bug or the back

half of a GYCB Swim Senko.

 

 

 

Are trailers a must with swim jigs?

I don't know for sure, I have never fished a swim jig without a trailer.

I always use a trailer of some sort

I am sure it is like everything else in fishing, everything works sometimes.

 

There are cases where you would probably get lucky and catch something on a jig with no trailer but percentage wise, it is going to be rare.

 

Trailers just give the swim jig so much more action.
