Crankbait Rod Around $50?

Featured Replies

I want to hear you guys opinion on a good cranking rod for around $50-60. I just picked up a Powell Diesel 705CB (newer generation) for $50 but wanted to see if anyone thinks there's a better rod for the price. I've looked at the H2O Ethos cranking rods before and liked them, but I don't know if they would compare to the Diesel. Besides those two options I don't know of many others. Any help or opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I am not familiar with the Powell rod Walmart has a jimmy Houston rod for under $50. It has a good feel for the price.

I dont think youll find a better rod in the price range

I just picked up a Shimano Sellus for $60. I've only been casting in the back yard with it but it feels legit. Moderate-fast action, micro guides, I can feel every divot in the three feet of snow cover. And it's got a little picture of a crankbait on the butt, which is my wife's favorite part.

Of the rod.

The fishing rod...

You are wanting something better than the Diesel for $50???? Unfortunately you'll have to pay to play as you aren't going to a new cranking rod that is better, however there might be a generous soul out there who may want to part ways with a good cranking rod for that price but new, you aren't getting any better unless you move up in price, sorry.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have some experience with the Diesel cranking rod? If so, how did you like it?

ive got one. fished it a decent amount last year. no complaints. caught a lot of fish with it. i think its a fantastic rod for 50 bucks

Would it be a good rod for lipless crankbaits and squarebills as well as normal crankbaits?

yeah thats mostly what i threw was squarebills and shallow to mid cranks. handled em just fine.

How do you think it would handle 5/8 oz lipless cranks? It's a medium heavy rod, but it's only rated to 1/2 oz so I'm not sure how it would handle them.

im not sure. i picked up alot of lipless cranks here lately. most 5/8oz. but i have two glass rods one is the lamiglas excel 2 which is rated up to 1oz so i may be throwing them on it

Just my opinion, but as a guy who fishes short sticks on creeks, an 1/8oz plus or minus the rating won't matter.

Powell is a good rod

I have the H20 ETHOS70CC and its held up great. I mainly throw 1/2 oz traps on it and for the price you can't beat it IMO. I broke it once ( tail gate bite ) and they swapped it out without the receipt with no problems. Great line guides and reel seat for the price.

I have the Ethos rod and really like it, especially for the $40 I paid for it.
