Someone mentioned something to me today. They don't go and spend 10 bucks on line conditioner. All you do is, get some Fabric softner and add water. Was this dude smoking something. I'd think the softner, would gunk up ruining my gears. What do you all think about this?

New to me but I would stick with a quality line conditioner, like KVD's stuff.

I've heard the same thing before.

I've tried the line conditioner, it's works good.  I don't use it anymore, I soak my line in warm water and troll my line out.  Every time I use a reel with mono or copoly it gets trolled out before I fish with it.

I do this every so often with all my line types just to keep them tight.

Considering a good spool of FC is $20-30, and the fact that I have over a dozen reels, I'll gladly spend the $8 on the KVD Line and Lure conditioner, than risk using some foreign substance not designed for fishing line and reels. Those little bottles easily last me 2 seasons. 

Many of the chemicals are similar, but a dryer sheet is meant to be activated through heat. There's also some components to eliminate static. I can't see that helping at all. Last bit, dryer sheets are carcinogenic and toxic. L&L is not. Which would you rather drink water polluted with?

No fabric softener in my house, so I guess I'd have to buy it too (LOL). I have the KVD spray and love it. A bottle in the boat and one in the garage. Now would KVD spray make my laundry nice and soft?

J- the OP is talking about fabric softener, liquid. Not dryer sheets.

I've heard the same thing OP- but as mentioned above, even with 15+ rods, a bottle of line and lure saltwater formula ( more formula, less price) lasts me all year.

Its $12 well spent IMHO.

Same difference, the chemicals come in liquid, dry crystal, and infused fiber.

Some believe a dryer sheet rubbed on to repel insect, I've done it myself for gnats.  Like handling small amounts of lead probably no harm would result, I would't be drinking a bottle of Downey, lol.

How would it gunk up your gears? I would think if you use it in moderation, like any other line conditioner, you would be OK.
