Best Bass Rods For The Money?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, looking at getting some new rods for bass fishing, specifically casting rods and am ready to buy some quality stuff that is durable and technique specific for under $200. Any pointers?

I've always heard great things about St. Croix rods.  Do you already have a reel to go with it?  If not I know the Shimano Curado reels are great.

Very subjective question. We all have our own opinions. Go to a,local shop and actually hold and feel the rods you like. That's the best way

Under 200 Phenix M1.

Good deal for the money. Just about any Bass Pro rod. Especially the Extreme.

For $200 range, wait for a sale or buy used, dobyns DX, 13 ***, Shimano Expride

Lots of good rods under $200.  One that I like a lot is the Fenwick Aetos.  Not particularly fond of the trigger, but that is personal preference.  Love the rod otherwise.  Read great things about the ***, but you would have to find one on sale or a used rod.  Phenix M1, Pinnacle DHC5, Kistler KLX, Shimano Zodias, St. Croix Avid also  get excellent reviews.  Picking out one is going to be tough.  Try to handle as many as you can.  I've had to buy most of mine sight unseen.  Was disappointed only once.  I rely on reviews of fellow fisherman, and sites such as TT.

St. Croix Avid gets my nod.

However, there's a few new contenders on the market now that I would love to try out, like the GLoomis E6X and the Shimano Zodias.

In the $200 range I love the Kistler KLX.

Lots of good options though.

$200 and under range is a GIANT market right now.  There are not many manufacturers that make an entire lineup of great rods.  A lot have one or two rods that are very good actions for some techniques, then make quite a few other rods in their series that just don't do as good a job as their top couple rods.  Take a feel and if your buddies have a rod try it out and see if you can hook some fish on it and see how the rod really performs.

in that range I will say that You will get a great rod from any reputable company. rods I would recommend that I have used would be St. Croix Avid, Dobyns, and the Pinnacle Perfecta DHC5!

For right around 200 bucks, those Pinnacle Perfecta rods are darn good. I won one on the site here a while back. It gets used on basically every trip. I've never had a real complaint with it.

The St. Croix Avids and AvidX's are a great rod for the money.

thanks guys, I got some research to do.

There are probably 30 rods in that range that are great

and another 30 that almost great lol

Pick your poison...make sure its comfy in hand and does what you want it to

You almost can't go wrong with Rod's in that price range. The only one I can think of that is a massive waste of the money is a Dobyn's Savvy but only if you're fishing soft plastic's and Jig's with it.

The other have given you a lot of good choices and the Duckett White Ice line is an amazing rod for the $200.00 price range also. Very few rod's in that range have fished as good as it does.

St.Croix Avid imho
