Can Anyone Make Me A Custom Jig?

Featured Replies

Im not sure where to put this thread, but i was wondering if any of you jig makers could make me jigs with a cobra jig head. I see just the jig heads online but not any finished jigs.

Thanks

If no one has the mold for this type of jig head, i could buy them and send them to you

I have been looking at them, just out of curiosity are arky and cobra jig heads the same? They look slightly different.

They are slightly different, but pretty much serve the same purpose.  If you just have to have the cobra, contact Mike, and he will take care of you!

Post a link to the cobra head you are looking at, will help to identify it. The cobra head is usually a stand up design, Arkie isn't.

Making your own requires a mold, lead, lead melting pot, paint, hooks, skirt materials.

it won't let me paste the link since its from TW, but Google gamakatsu cobra jig head.

The cobra head may be patented by Gamakatsu and reproducing it exactly could be patent infringement..

I guess you could buy unfinished heads and find someone to finish them for you?

If you can find the jig heads why not just get your skirts and tie them yourself? You can either put your own skirt combos together or you can get ones that are ready to go...

Gamakatsu Cobra 27 is a unpainted plain jig that you have the option of installing the fiber weed gaurd, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz size. I like the head shape, the hook used is undersize for me. This is similar to a Arkie jig, it's not a stand up design and is a compact jig for fishing cover. The price is good.

I would paint the head with Testors model enamel, the small size jar will cover about 50 jig heads. Go to sites that sells skirt making materials, see the tackle making forum for names ( fishingskirts.com). Making up skirts and painting jig heads is easy and fun to do. Most anglers like to powder coat, it isn't necessary, enamel paint works very good and availble at hobbie shops in more colors than needed.

Although making my own jig seems fun, I don't have the time right now and it would be easier if I could just purchase the jig heads and send them to someone who could assemble the jig for me.

Buy 1 set of 5 and go to Barlows Tackle or similar site and pick out 5 each assembled shirts that you like, Try those before investing in more jigs. You can fish the jigs without painting the heads or color using a Sharpie pen.

Any particular reason you're set on the Cobra head? Looks like a great jighead, doesn't appear to be much different than a Arky.

Yeah...looks very close to an Arky, which is my favorite. If you're dead set on the cobra, Tom's suggestion sounds like a plan.

The cobra and arky are almost exactly the same.  The only main difference is the angles on the front of the head instead of being round like the arky.

If your wanting to stick with the cobra I'll build them for you.  PM me all the info.

Awesome, Mike.

I like the look of those, too.  Is it a new product from Gammy?  Seems weird that they only offer them unpainted and without the weedguard attached.  Almost like they wanted to rush them to market while they work on packaging and marketing the 'finished' product.

I agree with others above who suggest you might try making your own.  Painting, gluing the weedguard and tying skirts isn't difficult and can be very satisfying.
