Spinning Reel Help!

Featured Replies

I recently bought a 6'6 med heavy at croix avid fast action spinning rod and am wondering what kind of reel and size I should match it with? I was thinking maybe the shimano saros but am not sure also what size reel should I get? I am looking to spend like $130-140 or less. Please Help!

2500 is a good all around size.  I like a 1000 for dropshot.

Quantum smoke, plfuger supreme, shimano symetre. All good reels around your price range. I like the Mitchell pro series a lot cheaper and great feeling reel

The shimano stradic 2500 would be my choice.  I know it is a few bucks over your limit but it is a great reel.  Within your budget though is the Pflueger Supreme.  Great reel as well but not quite as smooth and it is a little less refined.  It is probably the best bang for the buck I have found.

If you can find a Supreme XT in that price range, buy it. If not I'm hard pressed to justify buying anything other than a President and saving my the rest of the money I could have spent for baits or line.

I have over 25 spinning reels, most are well over $100 but none of my reels specifically bought for bass.  I do nothing but spinning, have a good idea of what my buck is going to get me and what's needed for the species and environment.  Have 4 reels of the same make and model about $170 used in saltwater that I really like, I've moved the 2000 size to bass fishing.  Does it perform any better for bass than my sub $100 reels, nope.

For a bass fishing I'm looking for a reel that feel feels good on the rod and comfortable to fish with, it does not have to be the lightest out there.  It's the marriage of rod and reel, not the individual attributes of each component.  I have not seen too many reels $75-$100 that aren't smooth with good performing drags, that I know will give me good service over time.  I'm not a weekend fisherman, do it 7 days a week, my track record with my gear has proven itself to me.

Well put. The Pflueger spinners are hard to beat on a bang for the buck basis. If I were going to break the budget I'd go right to a Stradic Ci4. SirSnook has a good point as well in that any 2500 size reel in the $50> price range that feels good paired with your rod will probably not disappoint.

which thread do you want your answer in????

Pflueger Supreme

imo best bang for the buck

I own 3 and have never had any problem with any of them.

Pflueger.
