Being OCD helps. I tend to count things almost subconsciously.

I don't mean to say it costs concentration.

Don't worry about counting things, we all do it. It's a problem when you must count everything to function.

It's not how many cast you make, it's where you cast that counts.

It is more important to concentrate on each cast and what happens.

Uhhh! It takes me 3-4 minutes to get some baits back to the boat!

Of course they do. But I count rounds fired, fish caught, casts made. Just seems natural to me.

I was the same way! I saw pics and vids of guys catching bass all the time, not realizing that they were spending hours upon hours on the water. Its easy look like a great angler if you only show the parts when you shine. How about an 8 hour fishing show where the guy spends the day throwing everything in his tackle box, messing with mosquitos, snags, reties, sunburn, anger, frustration, but ultimate exuberance when he lands 1 fish! Now thats more like it!!

I don't count, just keep casting until a bite, hopefully land it, then keep casting til the next. Rinse and repeat.

Major Ledge Fishing is a good example when the top tournament anglers can't get anything going while they know others are doing good.....talk about melt downs!

We have good days when everything goes right and days when nothing works, it's called fishing.

It depends on way to many factors to just throw out one simple ratio. The technique you're using is just one key factor. If I'm throwing a big 8 inch swimbait, it might be 1:250. A crankbait might be 1:30. A dropshot might be 1:5. An inline spinner thrown into a school of active bass might be 1:2. Way too many factors...

My advice, worry less about the stats and just go out there and enjoy catching what you can!

If we are talking quality bass, say 15" minimum" in a large public lake could take hundreds.

Depends on the lake or pond and the day. Ive caught a fish every cast on a pond one day and came back to catch nothing the next. Lakes usualy take me about 15 before hooking up on average but can be better or worst.

HA!  I can relate to your quote more often than I care to admit.   My goal is to collect enough 1 catch pictures to make me look like a pro.  Ha Ha!
