Not so much on this site, but I'm constantly amazed at people getting sell vs. sale wrong.  "I have to sale this...".  "For sell".

 I agree with Mr. Thornback, as long as I get the message spelling or the wrong context isn't important to me.  I'm a poor speller myself, had no affect on my ability to earn a living.

Pointing out someone's deficiency of the English language, is intellectual class warfare.   On a fishing site?

I think that as long as there is a bit of humor detected and it is done with the right intention,  it is helpful.  Even someone that admits a lack spelling skill can gain from it. I know that if I am spelling or using grammar incorrectly,  I want to know.  I have outside sales people that work for me.  I am relentless on spelling and grammar.  I want how they communicate to not make them look bad in the eyes of customers or superiors.

 

This discussion isn't new here on BR.  We started it up years ago.  There was a high school kid that was a great fisherman and was always on the "spelling and grammar shouldn't matter" team.  After his first semester of college,  he got back on here and admitted he was wrong.  At college, he found out he was a spelling and grammar failure and his grades showed it.  It took a lot of work on his part to re-learn what he should have learned early on in school.  It took a lot guts to admit it.  I gained some respect for him and anyone else that wants to do something as correct as they possibly can.  

I sent a text to my wife last night. wife being the operative word. I'd finished grilling our dinner, and she was held up at work My text was supposed to say "taking a quick shower. I smell like grill".

The iPhone auto-correct version of this was "taking a quick shower. I smell like girl".

Not exactly a message designed to endear oneslf to one's significant other.

Auto Correct can get ya.  Every Friday afternoon,  the owner of our company texts a "GOOD SHABBOS" to me and I text it back.  Last Friday, he texted and I quickly tapped out what I thought said GOOD SHABBOS.  Later, I read his response was...OK    Auto Correct, corrected what I thought I typed to GOOD SHAMBLES.  What the hell is GOOD SHAMBLES ...? LOL

Shabbot looks a lot like Sabboth with the "h" in different places.  Is it one of those words where a single letter can make a dramatic difference?

 

The evil emperor in Star Wars was the "Sith Lord".  Do you think George Lucas was playing a spelling game with Sith?  Just move the "h" two spaces to the left.
