Murky Water: Jig Or Spinnerbait

Featured Replies

Tomorrow I'm gonna head out to a pond with pretty murky water early in the morning. I have a black and blue jig with a rattle, and a chartreuse spinnerbait with double willow blades. Which one should i use?

Are you in Maine or Florida? Brian.

Both. Start with the spinnerbait since it makes more noise, and then the jig if it doesn't get bit. A black/blue single colorado black blade spinnerbait is best, as is a black blue jig with a very active trailer like a rage chunk, or even a rage lobster.

Use the spinnerbait first and if it is not producing switch to a jig.

I would use both, the SB for active and reflex fish and a dark jig with chartruese worked slow. They will know both are there.

ditto

X2. I would go with Colorado blade(s) though. Try a rattlebait too.

It's hard to say. There is no perfect bait for a "pond with murky water." If it has grass, I'd say try the spinnerbait. But we don't even know what kind of jig you have.

Double willow spinnerbaits aren't what you want in murky water. Try a black/chartreuse spinnerbait w/a Colorado or turtle blade instead.

I always have a jig and spinnerbait tied on. Any luck?

The jig wasnt working, so i switched to a crazy leg craw soft plastic and caught a 17 inch 2 and a half pounder.

     Jig...hands down.

If you're going really early in the morning you might try a topwater lure ;)

Apparently this thread is done. He's already been fishing and caught his fish with a craw.

Not a spinner bait or a jig... Next time you fish dark water throw a spinner bait with gold blades.

A Mann's classic 1/4oz double gold Colorado blades in a chartruese skirt with a mister twister chartruese 4" split double tail grub as a trailer.

When it comes time to change to change the chartruese skirt I get the hot chartruese skirt.

Don't forget a squirt of scent.
