Just curious as to when one might use a swing jig over a T-Rig.  I know there isn't a set rule, but in what situations might it be more productive?  I would think one would throw them in similar situations.

I like swinging jigheads more in open water and T rigs more in heavy cover and weeds. The swing heads really excel in rocks for me. 

For me it is about bottom content and covering water. When I'm fishing rock flats or large areas I'm going to use the swing jig and I'm using it as a crankbait just reeling it and bouncing it over rocks and along the bottom. I only use this if the water is calm, I know I could use it a lot more but for me when the water has a ripple or slight chop, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits come into play. The Texas rig is a target presentation, I'm making a cast and slowly working it in and around cover and even dead sticking for a bit, a completely different presentation than the swing jig.

Thanks for responding - great answers.  I pickup up a pack of 3/16 and 7/16 at the TW sale and wasn't quite sure how to fish them effectively.  

The swinging "rugby" jig heads/hooks can also be worked by reeling them, similar to a crankbait. Get a heavier one (5/8-3/4-1oz), let it sink to the bottom, and then reel it slowly back to you. You can stop it every once in a while. This will look just like a crawfish crawling along the bottom and you'll really be able to get a feel for what the bottom is.

I really only fish a texas rig around cover. Any sand, rock, gravel, etc I'll fish a swing head. 

It appears next time I am throwing around rocks I'll be using the swing jigs!

Swing jigs or wobble heads as i call em are awesome,i fish them like the above guys said cranking it. I never tx rig anymore andvwhere i would before i now tx rig a plastic on a wobble head and fish it lime that. They work great with paddletails,makes them roll side to side,much better action..i throw them anywhere and hardly ever hang up..
