Another swimbait topic. Sorry guys I'm new to Swimbaits and realized that I have a lot more questions. Read some articles saying that you should use like 25# fluorocarbon or mono. I have 30# braid but it said that would snap really easily? Need some help here guys

i use 50lb braid for my swimbaits

2 1/2 - 4 oz. = 20 lb.line

4 - 8oz. = 25 lb. line

8 -12 oz. = 30 lb. line

I lost the first swimbait I ever threw because of this like two years ago. Braid just doesn't have the shock strength if you hit a wind knot or something.

OP 25# copolymer is a pretty all-around safe bet.

25# p-line cxx for me, I troll it my first cast to get coils out then I'm good all day, I've broke off 1/2oz buzz baits on 50# braid when I backlash bad it just doesn't have the stretch for sudden stops.

Is that p-line copolymer? I've heard that p line cxx is really good too

I don't know, If you're talking about the paddles tail soft swimbait styles, I use 30# braid and have for years.

If you're talking about those 6"+ hard baits can't help you.

You do not want to use braid with swimbaits like the Bull Shad.  It is more prone to snapping.  Most use 25lb P-line CX or CXX.

That's what I was thinking of getting. Do you know if most sporting goods stores have that?

I normally have to order the 25lb.  Unfortunately the Academy and Gander in my area only goes up to about 20lb. 

I used 50lb. Power Pro at first.  Until my brand new Spro Rat went flying while bank fishing, luckily I was able to retreive it with the help from a pinecone (long story).  I now use 25lb. Suffix Seige, no probs...so far.

Would 25# fluoro stand up to a northern pike's teeth? That is one of my main concerns

True, but I've been useing it for years down here and that really hasn't been a problem..

25lb Maxima. IMHO the perfect swimbait line.

How heavy if baits are you talking about throwing? You kinda want to use the lightest line you can get away with. Even more so on a glide as bigger heavier line can dampen the action. I don't really throw anything that weighs over like a deps 250 but I use 20#. Anywhere from 12-20# for my swimbaits. When your talking about line like CXX in say 20# its not the same as normal line so it's a bad conparison. It has a thicker diameter and is way stronger then 20#.

I use 15 or 20 lb yozuri hybrid for baits up to 6oz. I mostly use 15 lb for 68s, Mini to 9" Slammers, 175s, and Bullshads. Never lost onethat wasn't my fault. The 15 is great unless you're getting up over 4 or so ounces.

The bigger, thicker, softer, the soft swimbait it is the more likely the braid will cut it. Hollow bellied type baits aren't as bad as they can compress and are smaller so you might be able to get away with braid on those.

what lb. line are you throwing your 13'' dead twitch trout with ????

I throw swimbaits up to 5 ounces and as light as 1.5 ounces on my setup, using 17 pound mono.

25 lb Big Game is inexpensive and heavy enough to withstand most toothy fish strikes and a good entry level line. I use Sunline Diefer Armilo 25 lb Nylon because it's smaller dimmer line and may not be good for toothy fish like pike or musky. I have caught both big pike and musky using 25 lb Big Game, doesn't mean they can't bite it off!
