Bass Pro "local Pro"

Featured Replies

Just got on with our local BPS here in town as a "local pro". Got a nice jersey, some commercial appearances, and opportunities to speak at store events locally and state wide. Also the other stores compete in tournaments on the east coast that I will be in too. Not to mention I get a little cash for speaking at seminars and some more store gift cards. They also provide me with about $1,500 a year in store allowance. Pretty excited. Feel like I got my "foot in the door" to be the next big PRO!!! lol

Congrats buddy! Are you prepared to answer the "How did you get that?" question that you are about to be asked 1000 times?

Lol. New store opened here in NC about a year ago. I spoke with manager about a job there in management but the staffing budget was too low. He kept in contact with me as different positions came up. He had some sales and other spots like that but the full time pay wasn't enough. Then they opened 3 "local pro spots" to help from time to time. He kept his word to help me out. I like the cash and gift cards, but the part I like the most is being there at events and learning from some of the more experienced guys and talking with new anglers getting started.

Congrats ~

Sounds like a heck of good deal.

The "Speaking at seminars" is a pretty big deal and a perferct way to increase your exposure, if that's what you're looking to do.

I'd encourage you to plan what you're going to talk about in advance and "practice it".

Video yourself, watch it, fix your weak points and perhaps let someone you respect watch your "show".

You'll be glad you did.  You only get ONE chance to make a good first impression.

Some of the pro's who do it and are successful may tell  you that aspect of this gig is as important as the Actual fishing.

Good Luck

That is some excellent advice A Jay! One thing I should mention also is I did have to interview with the general manager and three or four other managers in the store to find out my competency as well. I had about six interviews over the last several weeks and they had to look at my portfolio of pictures and tournament achievements as well as a full resume with references. So it was kind of like a big job application but it is very exciting !!! Tomorrow night we have an invitational dinner at one of our local churches for fishers of men here in North Carolina. The two guest speakers are Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston !!!!!!' I have a hat and a T-shirt and my wife and my tickets for autographs. Yep I'm a nerd LOL

Is your local BPS in Concord? I go there a couple times a year. Let us know when you'll be there so I can come up and listen to your seminar speech.

That's a dream job (even if it's a just foot in the door right now).  That could turn into something big.  Congrats.

Congrats!

They couldn't have selected a better guy!

I did it for a year & a half for Academy, it was fun but sadly our store was geared towards high school & college baseball so our budget gave way to them.

From the sportsman banquet last night in NC. They were really nice. Talked for a while. Jimmy told me to wear my shades indoors so I can look as cool as him lol
