Good All Purpose Medium/fast Action Rod For 150.00?

Featured Replies

I guess the title says it all. I am looking for a general purpose medium rod. Light jigs, texas rigs, etc. Anyone have one to recommend?

You fishing braid or mono or what?

Mono

Daiwa Tatula 6101MXB

All kistler rods are 25% off right now and a lot of people say $200 is to cheap for the klx, and the discount makes it $150 so do that lol.

St croix premier

a good choice but also look into a St. Croix Rage which is still in your price range but made of a lighter and more sensitive blank than the premier. I have a medium/fast casting model and it is a BEAST! Definitely look into it.

Cabelas tourney trail, their medium rods are right in between a medium and medium heavy. The sweet spot.

At $170 Aaron's Edge Mag Bass 7' or 7'3" medium Enigma rods should be on your list to evaluate. Aaron has has a great year to date with this new rod series and currently leading AOY standings.

Rage are prob still on sale on the st Croix site for $89. I have two. They're good rods. Avid/Avid X start at $200 and it's hard to find anyone who doesn't love them.

An old style used in really nice condition G-Loomis MBR782IMX on eBay for $150.00 or maybe a little more.

Powell max 3d in either a 3 or if you Want a little heavier rod a 4 power rating. Its out of your price range but they might gonon sale labor day. Or an old endurance or max but those are getting hard to find.

Phenix Maxim.  MH fishes more like a medium.  Love mine.

This is going to be a popularity contest so the rod you choose is going to look good to you with features you like. I won't add a rod to this because I think any rod at that price point is going to be decent and no matter what you choose you'll get a good rod.

Or wait for the new mojo to come out. Going to have the SCIII blank and will be considerably lighter than the old mojo, according to the lady I talked to at St Croix.

Local shop has Okuma Helios micro guides for sale at $129, picked up 2 and they are worth every penny

Do you know if this mojo is going to cost more because of the SCIII blank?

It'll likely replace the Rage series at the $150-$170 price point. As it is, St Croix already has 3-4 series built on the SCII blank at the $90-$120 price point.

that would surprise me since the current rods sell so well at the $100 price point which seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of bass rods.  If they don't use micro guides, they should be less than the $150 price point

Unlikely. They've already discontinued the Rage and have 3 other series at $90-$120. The new Mojo won't be $100 rods.

That makes sense. I love my rage and a mojo bass of that caliber would be sweet. The SCIII is a very sensitive rod blank.

Okuma makes some great sticks my go too is a c3-40x MHF very sensitive  and light

I own St Croix Premier, Avid X, and LTB rods. Also Carbonlite, Loomis E6X, and Cabela's Tourney ZX. My advice: Buy two Cabela's Tourney ZX rods when they get marked down from $99 to $70 (or less) or save up and buy an Avid X.
