I've been out of bass fishing for years and recently bought a new boat and wanna get back to it. I remember one problem I had was too much tackle and changing lures too often. I'm wanting to stick to 4 rods and 1 tackle box for my 1st year back. I will add a couple pics of what I have so far and would like any and all advice on pros and cons of my setup?

What are you using for spinner baits and soft plastics?

I am right where you are.  Recently retired, haven't fished in 15 years (still have all my gear though), just bought a used Ranger, and looking to scale waaaaay back on tackle.  Instead of 10 different 6" worms in 10 colors, I'm going to pick my best producing worm in 2-3 colors.  Same with cranks and spinnerbaits.  Out of all the stuff I use to take with me in the boat, I always wound up throwing the same tried and true baits.  I'm going to set up my boat something like this.  Good Luck to you.

For spinner baits & buzz bait I have an ole school Plano hard box that holds 60 baits.

I do have 2 of those carriers which gives me 14 Plano 3700 boxes!

d**n good looking lure selection.  The only thing I'd add would be a Bumble Bug since fall is coming up soon.  Is that a Storm Wildeye Blue Gill in there!?!?!?  Love that bait.

just a heads up on the bumble bug, I usually start fishing it just as fall starts to set in since it's a shallow crankbait.  I don't know where you're at but here in St. Louis it's still a little warm for fishing very shallow.  But it's a good lure to have in your arsenal come fall and early spring.

Plano makes a 3700 sized box specifically for spinnerbaits. 1 of them plus 6 regular 3700's I plenty. Put some of your plastics in a couple 3700 boxes. You're all set.

That is a great idea. I could put whatever 3700 boxes I need that day in the bag and keep the extra 3700 boxes in the man cave.

1 gallon zip lock bags are 11" long and good for soft plastics in their original bag storage, would fit in the carry bag.

My boat is a tackle carrier and don't comprehend minimal tackle!

One 3700 has terminal tackle & jigs, the other 6 has plastics.

My spinner bait box has 18 spinner baits, 10 buzz baits, & 2 Johnson spoons. It is 14" long, 7 1/2" wide, & 7" tall.

I carry only one utillity box carrier & the spinner bait box.

That is a great idea. I could put whatever 3700 boxes I need that day in the bag and keep the extra 3700 boxes in the man cave.

My success on the water increased (both fun fishing and tournament fishing) when I stopped being a mobile/floating tackle store. Yet, I still think I carry too much....and I know for a fact I buy WAY to much stuff that rarely even makes it into the boat. While I believe in the K.I.S.S. method of fishing, I sure don't follow my own advice at times.

Catts organization system using carriers and easy to see what you have boxes is what we all should do!

The only time I organize is fishing night tournaments, then I have my night stuff very organized.

Just the other day I was considering ordering stuff because couldn't get to the local tackle shop and put it off. I thought I had what was needed, so looked for it and couldn't find it, went though several boxes and found stuff I didn't need, went to put that stuff away and found what I was looking for in storage boxes. Too much stuff!

It's time to reorganize!

Even those 7 Plano boxs are in a specific order and the utility carrier is always facing the same direction. Box #1 holds straight tail worms and is divided into 8 compartments; I know what is in the left, center, & right sections.

 I try to be but it doesnt last. I have two dedicated crankbait boxes and crankbaits thrown in a night fishing box. One box holds cranks with the line ties on the bills [ med / deep divers ] and one box with line ties on the bodies . I often cant find a bait and its in the wrong box "How did my vintage green Deep Little N wind up in the topwater box ?"

Thanks for all the ideas! I'm gonna stick with what I'm using for now and build on my 3700 boxes I already have. My plan is to carry two of each type of lure one natural color and one bright color along the lines of: frogs, topwater walker/popper, jerkbait, crankbait, lipless crankbait, jigs, swimjigs, spinnerbaits. Then just 5 or 6 packs of plastics and of course terminal tackle.

My goal is to not get caught in the moment of picking though 20 different crankbaits and instead just pick one of two and worry more about my presentation and techniques.

I know at some point I will end up with tons and tons of lures but I will try to keep it simple until I'm back in the swing of things.

Since I usually use the kayak I take the minimalist approach. When I fish from my buddy's boat I take the whole bag. When I fish from my big boat I take the kitchen sink.

I carry two 3600 boxes -- 1st holds various jigs/jig heads and terminal tackle.  2nd holds plastic top water, jerk baits and crank baits.  Spinnerbaits ride in a top "map pocket" -- various bags of plastic worms/grubs/tubes reside in a side pocket -- one end pocket carries spools of leader line, the other end pocket carries small tools (hook sharpener, small flash light, pliers, ect.).  This bag is the only bag I carry whether I'm fishing in my boat, canoe, or wading.  I do carry more rods/reels when boat fishing than in my canoe or wading.

 

I still carry baits that never get wet the entire season...
