Where Are You Guys Buying Your Reels?

Featured Replies

The only local bait shop is kind of a hike and not on my way to anything . Plus they are not very pleasant to deal with.

I know the big box online retailers. Any suggestions or places to stay away from would be appreciated . Thanks in advance .

Online auction sites seem to offer the best deals. Check feedback and make sure it's 100% or very close to it.

I bought one reel from a sponcered here. I try to support our sponcers first this keeps this great bass fishing forum free.

It depends on what I want but definitely online.

I'm disabled I can't walk in a store to fondle fishing rods.

Where?

Japanese sites like Japantackle, Digitika, JLS

US retailers that offer sales of closeout prices

Various buy and sell forums like the one on here

Occasionally locally for a good deal

The reel store

Used on various forums, the bay, online/brick and mortar retailers when they have closeouts/sales.  I just keep my eye open for deals and snap them up, worry about pairing them with a rod later since rods seem to be a lot easier to find on sale.

American Legacy.

Classifieds...mostly.

Mine have all come from eBay. Particularly overseas. Particularly Australia.

Our dollar is worth more than theirs, so you can usually buy one step up from your desired reel for the same price you'd pay for one model lower in the US. I just bought a Sustain for $177US + $25 shipping.

Shipping's not that much higher either, and with customs agreements, I just recently got my Sustain in 6 days.

Other than that, it's usually an even mixture of major outdoor stores and sporting goods stores.

Flea Bay is the place to go (our sale site on here). I'd also recommend checking out the Black Friday sales this year, I found a $140 reel brand new for $50 last year. Still using it and love it.

Amazon & ebay

X2

I buy my reels from BR members, Auction site * mostly, once in a while I purchase one in a big store but very rarely. I just bought a Calcutta 300D at big retailer here locally because the deal was great for a brand new Calcutta. Over $60 off retail. I don't know how big retailers sell rods and reels to be honest. Prices are much better elsewhere 99% of the time.

I've purchase almost all of my reels from eBay sellers.  I search by lowest price, then look for perfect or near-perfect feedback (and lots of it).  Haven't been stung so far...

Tight lines,

Bob

I have used ebay and American Legacy. Both worked out fine, but my preferance would be American Legacy. I've called them a couple of times with questions and they were very helpful.

I usually get 'em on the bay, the Flea Market, yard sales, etc. The only new reels I've acquired lately have been gifts froom my lovely wife.

The cheapest place...

Local DSG has flaming deals around the holidays, and I also look in the used section of Amazon

Dicks sporting goods usually. When stuff goes clearance it goes REALLY clearance
