I see massive grass carp in the lake I fish on a military base regularly, and I was just wondering if they ever bite artificals. I know how most people catch them but was just curious if they will bite a lure once in a blue moon...

Not actually on the lure, foul hooked it in the dorsal. Sure had my heart racing after catching a 3-9 and a 4-2 on 10 casts off the same point. Gave the little Aldebaran and 8lb. McCoy a work out. Brian.

That carp I caught that I posted a picture of in that thread I got to watch eat my bait, no mistaking that it was attacking the bait.

Nice one! Foul hooked fish pull way different than a fish hooked in the mouth.. I bet that was a fun battle on that reel.

I have snagged two. Interestingly, one of them, upon discovering that he was hooked, made a run for the middle of the pond, where he somehow managed to scrape off my bait on a log or something. All I know is that the carp was gone and I was hung up. Losing both the carp and my lipless wasn't fun haha. 

Caught one earlier in the spring on a black and blue chatterbait. It was at night and man was I disappointed when I got it to the bank. I thought I had a new PB!

Yes ... on a friggin' shakey head of all things ... Thought it was the biggest bass i ever hooked on to until ... 

I've heard of it... There are some in my pond and i've tried catching them with corn but had no luck. So now i just stick to bass fishing with artificials. But as long as a grass carp is a possibility, i'm keeping my drag fairly low no matter what i'm using.

I have snagged quite a few dd grass carp over the years. I see movement in the weeds, cast the bait it, and POW it feels like I hooked a train. They really pull when you hook them in the tail.

Ive never done it but its real popular here in Denver to catch them in the south platte with flies.

Years back I caught one on a hard plastic surface lure with a lip on it.  I cant remember the name or the brand but they were about 1-1/2 inches long and the ones I had were supposed to look like a bee, a grasshopper and I dont remember what else. The only resemblance to any of the living insects was that they were painted to look like them.  I  was in an 11 foot canoe casting one of these around the perimeter of a small reservoir when I threw it under an overhanging tree.  As soon as it hit the water it was sucked down.  My best guess is that the carp thought it was a mulberry or some other fruit that fell from the tree.  This thing pulled me around for at least ten minutes before I boated it.

 

I tried for at least a hour to get another to hit the  lure but couldnt.   I think it was just a lucky cast.

 

When I was a kid, my cousin and I boiled frozen spinach and put it in pieces of old nylon stockings to keep it together.  It is a waiting game and we caught a few that way.

I think you are talking about the Rebel crickhopper or Rebel bumble bug. I have one of the grasshoper kind. I have caught a lot of bluegills on it and a few bass. Also have got some trout.
