I am going start making my own skirts here soon and was wanting to hear opinions on using rubber skirts versus using Silicone and possibly using both on some jigs. Are Rubber skirts better in cold weather? Warm Weather? I know there are a lot more color selections with silicone, but I just like rubber better for action.

I like them both.  I use them both.  I also mix them.  Silicone is easier and faster for me to put on a jig.

Actually most of the rubber jigs I build are for someone else. Since I cannot get the strans to seperate when cutting I always end up pulling them apart by hand which takes forever. Look into Starflash skirts as they are sort of between silicone and rubber?

I dont fish rubber very often anymore.  Its a pain to make for the reasons Munkin said.

Both. The rubber will flair more by tightening down on the wire used to attach it to the jig.

from the anglers standpoint, and not the builders, i really prefer silicone. Sure it doesnt flair as much, but the colors are much better, and it doesnt fall apart in my box after a year.

I like the way the living rubber flares in and out when the jig is sitting on the bottom. With a craw trailor it is hard to pass up for a big bass.

Do a test... silicone vs rubber. Put both in water and see which one flairs more. You'll find that the rubber does. A lot of the jig guys out in southern California won't use anything but round rubber. I have used both but find myself turning to rubber jigs exclusively.

I am mixing Silicone with Flatline rubber from fishingskirts.com. They look really good in the sink! Can't wait to fish with them this spring.
