Grip/scale

My trusty Rapala digital scale is starting to show signs of age. Although it is not a grip, it was an extremely accurate scale.

Looking for suggestions for a grip with a scale. Don't mention Boga grip. Can't afford and only read to 1/4 lb. My son just bought a small 30 lb pistol grip model with digital scale on clearance at Dick's and we weighed a 5lb weight from his set and it was 5.01 lbs. He got the last one for $28.00. It is Field and Stream brand. Not sure how long it will last.

any thought or suggestions? 30lb. is fine.

Don't recall who, but someone here linked these before.  I got a couple and am very happy with them.  I use with my Fish Grip.

I won't mention Boga. ... oops.

But I did lose my F&S from Dick's over the summer

when "tossing" it between my yak and one of my boys.

Don't ask.

But it was a very good scale. Pretty much as accurate

as my Boga.

My mistake on the brand. It is a Quarrow but looks just like F&S.

A-Jay-

Is that what they use on Major League Fishing?

Yes ~ I had emailed them and they provided the info.

The scale works very well. It has a "hold" feature that automatically locks in the weight.  I rather Like it.

One thing I will say is that the grip was a little "small" when used in Mexico.

But works fine every where else.

Fish Grip Jr. slid onto a Brecknell scale does the trick for me.

If you truly think that a product at half the price of a Boga is equal you are mistaken. When it comes to spring scales bogas are the cream of the crop with no equal. If you don't believe that statement verify it with IGFA who are the governing body who certify scales for world records.

I use almost the exact same setup as A-Jay. Fish Grip Jr. coupled with a $6 fish/luggage scale from Amazon. Works beautifully every time, and I really love the Fish Grip Jr.- a solid grip without damaging the fish's jaw.

Have you held a Baker?

Really looking for something to weigh all those pesky 30" plus pike I've been catching along with Bass and the Rapala, though excellent for Bass, didn't hold Pike very well. One shake and they were off.

Don't want to start a war but I believe all scales must be certified by the IGFA if you want to have it used for a world record, no matter the brand. Don't think IGFA recommends one over the other but could be wrong. This also does not means Bogas are not the best. They must cost that much for a reason. Just out of my budget and I prefer digital anyway.

After using A-Jay's first hand, I promptly made my own.  If anything were to go bad or missing, I would make another just the same!  Love this setup!

Agreed ~

There are worse things that could happen to a bass head & I'm not complaining.

Just stating the facts.

Sounds a little like rubbing it in my friend. Definitely on my bucket list.

Thanks Jeff!

The Fish Grip, combined with the digital scale of your choice, makes an excellent budget tool in my opinion.  I have the $19.99 Berkley digital scale from the local Wal-Mart, and I love the thing.  It's still going strong on the original battery after two season.  It has some handy memory features, too.  I checked the accuracy and it is excellent.

Tight lines,

Bob

I use the same thing as A-Jay since he posted a picture on here. It works great and is much better for the fish than jamming a big hole through their lip or hanging them by the gill plate.

That's when you step up to the full size fish grip!
