I like to look at the taxidermy, other than that, they both are ridiculous on pricing.. If it happens, it's bad for consumers like A-Jay alluded to.

I don't know who the mastermind is behind Tackle Warehouse, but he should be the one buying out Cabelas, not BPS.

That's sad. My cabelas is so much nicer than my BPS.

I spend a lot more time walking around Cabelas than Bass Pro , even though I dont buy much from either .

Bass pro will ruin cabelas.

I really don't care.  Neither one has a store close enough to me to make the trip worth while.  I save a lot of money buying on line versus gas for the trip.  But, I do believe that for the customer, competition is a good thing.

Selfishly, I don't like it because I'd have to pay sales tax on anything I get from Cabelas online (if a store or distribution center for the company resides in CA we have to pay sales tax). The BPS I've been to (Manteca, Rancho, Vegas) were all nicer than the only Cabelas I've been in (Reno), but I've heard some of the stores you guys have in the Midwest and down south are much nicer than what we have out here.

You have a new BPS in San Jose, opened a week ago.

Watch the cabelas stock if the merge takes place the cabelas stock may go sky high. I've done some day trading like this before.

Once BPS buys Cabelas the cabelas stock value will match the higher bps stock.

It's a gamble.

Don't really see what it matters anyways. Around here they aren't diverse at all.... same store, same products, different name. One usually had a more knowledgeable staff is about the only difference.

I am not a fan of this either. First, like many of the above posted I don't like when a company in a field buys up all the other competitors. I do not want to be surrounded by 3 BPS which all carry the same gear. I have 2 BPS nearby and they are slightly different. However, the Cabelas that just opened up in Hudson, MA is drastically different and both suit different needs. BPS is my go to for bass fishing. However, Cabelas has some brands I can't find at BPS. But for hunting, camping, hiking etc I prefer Cabelas 10 to 1 over BPS. Variety is the spice of the life.

Can't imagine that Dick Cabela would have ever thought his business would be sold to BPS.

White Consolidated owns most of the refrigerator brands.

Husqvarna owns Johnsered, poluan, Pioneer, partner, chainsaws.

I have neither around me, so I don't care. I don't even buy to much from them online. i usually hit up Dick's the town over, or hit up Gander, another site, or TW on the interwebs. I just found a nice mom and pops place 30 min from the house that has a real nice selection of equipment and baits that I cant get at Dicks so they will be getting my cash also if I don't want to pay or wait for shipping.

BPS is a privately held company and doesn't have public stock available for trading.

Does the parent company have stocks?

I hope they don't lose the good customer service if bps does buy them out....

Apparently this deal was closed on Nov. 9

Apparently BPS, takes control on Jan.1

Too bad...

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!  Competition is good!

I'm a big Cabelas fan (and not so much of Bass Pro).  As far as who owns them, it doesn't matter to me, as long as they keep the way they are and don't switch to the Bass Pro model (i.e., have crappy homes brand products and not really carry anything else)

You're likely going to get a quick increase if the purchase succeeds, but I wouldn't expect anything drastic.  Both are older, established retail chains.  It might be worth throwing some cash at, but I wouldn't stake a college fund on it or anything.

If its true we will feel it in the wallet im afraid

If I were a BPS marketing executive, I would be reading these posts with concern. It seems very few of us (myself included) buy from them. Maybe they don't care about the diehard bass anglers but they sure should.

I make my jigs and buy my components online. When it comes to hard baits and plastics, TW gets my business 9 times out of 10 and Academy gets some business from me as well. I live 5 minutes from a Cabelas but their selection is limited and overpriced.

I was reminded today why I don't spend money at BPS. I have a $10 off coupon with no restrictions and a $10 off a $50 purchase online only. So I can get $50 worth of merchandise for $30 plus tax and shipping. I purchase a lot of stuff in bulk and was looking for a particular brand, size, and color of swimbait. BPS wants $7.49 a package and do not have the color I am looking for. The manufacturers website has them for $6.49 per package, and a certain warehouse that sells tackle has them for $5.99 per pack with the color in stock.

I'm curious, percentage wise, how much fishing tackle makes up their overall sales.

We JUST literally had a Cabela's open down the street from me within the year. Wonder what's going to happen to it...
