For me I think most is confidence like scaleface said. I have used them since I was a little kid almost always some success.

Also like PourMyOwn said it does bring back good memories as a kid as well.

Everything just feels right when I am putting one on. 

 

I also agree that some newer more popular bait companies worms more than likely wont be a upgrade for me. Although I have fished a whole lot of other brands I just like the blend of toughness & softness as Catt puts it.

I love when I'm fishing with a younger guy (I'm 38) and they say, "WHAT is THAT!?" Then I show them the auger action on the drop and they can't believe it. I've caught a ton of smallmouth on 6'' auger tails on the drop.

A Jelly Worm in Blackberry is one of my favorites in summer. Not only do they entice bites but they seem to last longer than most plastic worms do IMO. 

In summer the purple 8” Jelly Worm with a 3/16 bullet weight kills for me. It’s m favorite size, with the 6” just behind it.

 Back in the day before the first Mister Twister there were basically three plastic worms everybody I knew threw. The Crème Scoundrel, the Manns Jelly Worm and the Fliptail. I forgot who made the Fliptail.

You can't go wrong with a Mann's Jelly Worm.  I've been fishing them since the 70's and love them. They are one of my two favorite plastic worms, the other being a stick bait style worm for wacky rigging. Back in the day purple and black grape were the colors to beat.

I used Jelly worms most . I liked fliptails too. They just were not readily available like the Jelly worm which could be bought anywhere.

And although I certainly didn't win anything, I experienced something similar but it was a swimbait instead of a big worm.

^^ The video series is incredible. It reminds us that grand days like that simply don't happen by accident. 

The Sting Ray worms were a tougher salt water plastisol having a larger wider spear tail, good worm.

Blueberry color was translucent sky blue back in the 70’s good color nearly forgotten today and should work.

PS, caught a Otay lake record back in 1968 using a 7” Blueberry Jelly worm the record lasted 3 days!
