Best $100 Spinning Rod

Featured Replies

I am looking to buy a spinning rod that would mainly be used for soft plastics, drop-shotting, all the finesse stuff like usual. I am looking to spend around $100 but am willing to go a little over. Mainly looking for quality and sensitivity (looks really don't matter to me). thx JD

Seeing that your avatar is Duckett, I'm not too suprised you are looking for a good $100 rod.  Carrot Stix and never look back, crazy sensitive, super light, and even though you don't care about looks it's the best looking rod on the market.  ;)

One that feels good in your hand, with your reel mounted on it, of course....

I favor Abu Garcia Veritas, but might be tied against a Kistler I just bought from T*** W*** on sale.  I'll have to fish the Kistler more next season.

That kistler rod should drop below 100 during the black friday sale....

I really enjoy my ML Fenwick HMG. I have really enjoyed using it, it is really sensitive and all day comfortable. For 100 dollars I cant imagine finding anything better.

Big C, what carrot stix model would you recommend for my price range?

Another for the HMG. I purchased mine on sale for nearly half the price. Its been great for everything from spybaits to ned rigs.

Have had several. Broke several. Great warranty, terrible customer service.

I think just the Carrot Stix Wild Wild Orange would suit your needs ($99 on TW).  I have the 7' Med. Carrot Stix Wild (the older model), it's perfect for weightless wacky rigs, finnesse jigs, ect.

Kistler mag, awesome rods even at their regular price but can't be beat for $110.

I was also looking at the dobyns fury. Has anybody had experience with the fury or dobyns in general?

Cabela's has the Fenwick SilverHawks on sale for 60 bones. Save yourself 40 bones for other tackle or gas. I haven't used mine a ton yet, but I do think for 60 bucks it can't be beat.

For my part, I really like the BPS Carbonlites for $100

I also agree with the BPS Carbonlite. Have really enjoyed.

I like the carrot stix wild black series. That is probably what I will get. What about a $100 or less spinning reel. I looked at the new okuma inspira and it looks like a good reel. Any others?

For 100 dollars my choice is defiantly a Symetre 3000 or 4000 depending on how it balances the rod. Other great choice are the Okuma RTZ and the Pflueger Supreme. Another great idea to see what you can find used.

I'll agree. Want a St Croix Avid but it is hard not to consider this rod for $100 less.

I would keep an eye on TW sale section.  I got a daiwa Exceler 1500 (spinning) for something like $40-$50, and a Daiwa Lexa for (casting) for $60.

So, TW has some pretty good sales, especially since it's the end of the season.

so many great rods make sure you consider warranty. some rods have 1 yr vs 5 yr vs lifetime

This is another reason to go with the HMG imo.

I'm really liking my new 7'6" medium-light HMG, especially for schoolie stripers. A lot of fun.

I would recommend doing a search for carrot stix before buying one. I had one. It broke. They essentially have no customer service, so the "warranty" is unusable. Combine that with the fact that there are tons of people who have problems them, I'll never buy another carrot stix again.

The St Croix Rage at $89 is really hard to beat.
