New years resolutions!

Recommended Posts

What are some things you want to do differently starting this year? I've decided I'm gonna learn how to play the guitar and that's going pretty good so far, I'm using a thing called rocksmith for my Xbox game system and its surprisingly good at teaching you how to play...

I'm also gonna try to do more bass fishing tournaments and excersise more.

How about you guys?

I was going to say that I never broke a New Year's Resolution.  So what if I've never made one?  Oooops, I did say it.

I have a few but the two big ones are 100 pushups and a 5k. Halfway there on the 5k (been running for a little while now), and about 1/4 of the way to 100 pushups.

The 5k is a lot easier than 100  push ups.

Nothing wrong with that and I hope to do the same, but for some reason I don't think it'll happen that way. <_<

Probably not. Have to pay the bills. Period.

Yep, there's always a 10k after that. And then if I'm feeling really bored I'll just go for an Iron Man marathon....:D

Idk how fast your taking it but don't over work yourself, when you go from not running at all to running everyday its really tough on your body. Don't be afraid to take a day off here and there starting out, if you start feeling any sign of shin splints ice them and take it easy until they go away. I got shin splints and plantar fasciitis because I always ran through my injuries in cross country and it would get horrible, to the point it hurt to walk...

I'm just saying don't expect to go from not running at all to doing 10k's overnight, not saying your a couch potatoes or anything! Haha

I know, I was just kidding. Not planning on running a marathon :). I'm in pretty good shape from my job and I've always done a lot of running playing sports & stuff, so I'm not too concerned about it but I won't overdo it.

But while we're on the topic what are some signs of shin splints?

Your shins will tell you if your abusing them. I always thought shin splints were more of a sprinting problem than jogging or distance running.

Never got shin splints, but got patellofemoral pain syndrome on occasion.

R. I. C. E. - rest, ice, compress, elevate. Should go away in a week.

Now I have a meniscus issue. Sux getting old!

Oh you can definitely get them bad from jogging too if you push yourself too hard... They start out as kinda like a pressure in your shin then they get worse and worse if you don't rest them to the point where it is always hurting even when you aren't running and just walking.

I used to have them bad but I never wanted to rest, I would go on 10-16 mile long runs every Sunday trying to push through it and it got to the point I just couldn't run anymore and had to stop all together for awhile, I never did get back to being that in shape...

You can easily achieve this in less than 6 months.Eat well, train smart, don't overtrain, and you will reach this goal.Have done this along with running full Marathons and doing over 150 pushups nonstop with full range of motion.

I'm lucky if I can push myself away from the table after a good meal!

You young guys need to get out more ;)

Lose 50lbs, no work I'm retired, fish everyday, maybe twice a day. Fish the lakes near me too besides the little places. Plant corn for the deer. Plant a big garden this year time to can again. Maybe get some egg laying chickens. Fresh eggs is good.

It beats the alternative.  At the risk of sounding political, "Embrace the suck".

I don't remember ever making a New Year's resolution.  I am too old to start now.

Thanks for the encouragement. I increase the number of pushups by 5 each week, and if I can keep doing that I'll be up to 100 by April. Up to 30 as of last night.
