Deep cranking

Featured Replies

What is everyone's rod preference when cranking deep. Also what are some of your favorite deep divers.

There is a sticky about crankbaits. Read that when you can. What do you consider deep? Lots of crank specific rods out there so take your pick on a brand you trust. I fish 10-15ft a lot and like the 5xd in a blue back chartreuse body.  Hooks are plenty sharp.

15+ is somewhere about where I'm thinking. Sorry about your finger

Phenix x10 and strike king 5xd or 6 xd

As far as strike king goes, I wouldn't venture away too much from the xd models. Like 5xd or 6xd in your case. I have other sk models that look similar but there hooks are less than desirable. The barb on the hook that stuck my finger was crazy. I couldn't pull that sucker out. I did everything possible but a trip to the dr. Was what got it out. Unfortunately they really impressed me lol

Rod preference 7'11"-8'0" rod personally.  I like graphite that feels more like glass.  My personal rod preference is an RM805cb Dobyns Champion.

Favorite baits:
Norman DD22 (color selection is awesome)
Strike King 5 and 6XD
Spro Lil John DD.

I have a 7' 8" Mojo "Big Crankster", that has been an excellent deep cranking rod for me. I keep it pretty simple for deep cranks, mainly because our lakes lack depth for the most part anyways. The Strike King 5XD and 6XD carry the vast majority of my deep cranking workload. I also use the Little Jon DD, Bandit Ledge 250, and Fat Free Shad a little bit. I don't carry many colors because I don't feel it matters much with deep cranks in our stained to dirty water. I like the green gizzard shad and chartreuse/blue back.
