Buzzbait on flouro?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'd like to use my 8.5:1 reel for buzzbaits but it is mainly a jig reel with 15lb flouro. Will FC affect the action of a buzzbait? I know its not good for topwater but I figure buzzbaits are an exception.

Thanks,

-Z

Fluorocarbon line sinks ~ this makes it a popular choice for many sub-surface presentations.

Fishing a buzzbait on FC line may not be ideal.  Perhaps if you make very short casts and you reel it in very fast . . . . .

Fluoro is not ideal for buzzbaits, but it can certainly work. Braid is a great option especially if you're casting over cables to fish around and behind docks, in my opinion.

Flouro is the one line type i would not fish a buzzbait on...

Fluorocarbon line can be used for buzzbait fishing.

Please strongly consider the Cavitron line of buzzbaits.

It is the best and it stays on top of the water with fluorocarbon lline.

I fish a buzzbait on fluoro occasionally. Even at the slowest speeds it's moving too quickly to effect the action.

I fished a buzzbait on FC all year, no problem.

thanks, I figured the buzzbait moves too fast (even at slowest possible speed) for the sinking properties of FC to affect it. I will keep FC on the reel and try it out.

Sam - Cavitron are the only ones I own!

The "no flouro for topwater" rule doesn't really apply to reel in topwaters. It wouldn't be my first choice, but if that's all I had, no problem using it.

I'm a mono guy for all top water but frogs. The little bit of stretch helps with hook up ratios for me.

Ive had zero problems and has improved hookup ratio.  The line simply doesnt have time to sink.

Those who say you cant because the line sinks are just repeating what theyve read about.

Yeah, while not ideal, you really can get away with flouro for buzzbaits. They are typically moving fast enough that with your rod tip high you will be able to get away with it.

Ive had mixed results. I had the top eye of my buzzbait stick crack and had to use my spinnerbait rod which had floro on it rest of trip.  I found it depends on the style and size blade and retreive speed especially.  If just zipping it across floro is fine.  I prefer to use a larger 4 blade single prop and roll it as slow as i can to keep it on top and squeeking along. I had to reel it a lil bit faster than i prefer on floro.
