Question about braid to fluorocarbon

Featured Replies

I watch a lot of fishing programs on WFN - and sometimes a fisherman will say that using braid but attaches fluorocarbon as a leader to the braid.  How do you attach fluorocarbon to the braided line???

Uni to uni knot is one way. Look it up on google or YouTube

I use the uni to uni on everything.. If you're working with lighter braid make sure to double it up when you tie the knot so you have more meat in the knot.. Otherwise the thin diameter braid can cut thru the fluro easily..

I use the Alberto knot and have great success with it.

FG Knot. But takes some practice to get used to tying it correctly.

I use the RP/Modified Albright/Alberto knot, works really well. There are a lot of options, they all work decently well depending what you like.

Uni to Uni.......

Same

Double uni knot if I'm out fishing, but if I'm tying it at home I use the fg knot.

Yup, alberto knot. Never broken the knot here, it always gives at the hook first.

Si, me too Alberto.

Good videos on YouTube

I find that a uni to uni connection causes a clicking as it moves through the guides. A slimmer, more effective knot is the Alberto in my opinion. Besides, the Alberto is not a knot per say. Rather it's a weave; kinda like the Chinese handcuffs you use to get in Crackerjack boxes. :)

Another vote for the alberto knot. I have never had one that is tied right fail...ever. I use this knot on everything from albacore to bass.

Alberto knot is awesome and a little narrower than the double uni but both are great knots

Uni-to-Uni or Alberto/Mod'd Albright.

Easy to tie once you get used to it.

I used to use a uni-to-uni know but had breakage issues no matter how carefully I tied.  I now use a small Spro Power Swivel and have zero issues.  Don't be afraid/ashamed to use a swivel if you have failures at the knot.

+1 for FG. Has been tested at almost 100% breaking strength and it's basically the thinnest knot around. Works well on both casting and spinning

I SUCK at knots.  I just don't have the dexterity in my fingers.  I watch Youtube clips and literally cannot get my fingers to do what I see on the video.

With all that said, one of my major goals this year was to change from pure flourocarbon on spinning gear to a braid/fluor combo.  So far, so good.  I have been using the Seaguar knot this spring and have not had any issues.  Check it out on Youtube.  If I can tie it, anyone can.  But I do want to experiment with the FG knot once I feel I have completely mastered using the Seaguar knot.  I haven't wrestled with any 4-5 lb smallmouth yet.  That will be the true test.

I believe the uni knot is quicker and easier to tie but I like the alberto knot better.

I use the Alberto as well. Quick and easy once you get the hang of it. I watched some videos on the FG knot and got scared away lol. I thought about a swivel but sometimes I will use a fairly long leader, and don't want a swivel slamming through my guides when I cast or reel in.

I'm an Alberto Knot guy. To me, it is easier to tie an Alberto quickly and cleanly than the Uni to Uni, but others feel the opposite. They both work fine. The main thing is, whatever knot you use, learn to tie it perfectly (as possible). Practice while you are sitting around the house or wherever. Line-to-Line knots work great, but if they are not tied just right, you'll have a lot of regrets.

Uni to Uni :)
