What is this style of jig head called, with the spin blade on an arm? Nevermind the little plastic that's attached.

My friend loves using these round jig heads with the spinnerblade and a white or pearl grub but can't find them without buying a kit each time. I'm trying to find them online for him but all I can locate is the kind with the blade attached on a swivel directly to the head.

He's looked and could not find any. I told him to check the crappie lures and still no luck. He's only been able to find them in the little starting tackle kits that come with cheap combos.

Now that I know they're called jig spinner forms, I was able to find some online. Looks like we'll have to buy the spinners and jig heads seperately. I have a bunch of the beetle spins in my crappie kit but all the jig heads are pretty small.

beetle spins are crappie magnets, Ive caught some nice bass with them too.

Never mind about the jighead size, care about having the arm & blade, you can use pretty much any size jighead. I pour my own and pair up to 3/8 oz w/ 4/0 hook to the arm rigged with 5" grubs to the arm & blade assembly and they work perfectly fine.

Academy, Dick's, Bass Pro should have Bettle Spins in 1/8, 1/4, & 1/2 oz

BPS has from 1/32 oz up to 1/4 freshwater versions, 1/2 oz are "saltwater" versions ( yeah, like if saltwater lures won´t work on LMBs  )

Anywhere there are very large bluegills, I'll tie on a tandem Crappie jig and Beetle Spin and have a field day catching both species.

I remember I used to hate Beetle Spins, why ? because there I was with my tackle boxes filled with the coolest lures, hundreds of dollars spent in tackle and suddenly out of nowhere came some dude armed with a cheap rod paired to a Zebco 202 and a frigging 2 dollar Bettle Spin and start catching fish right on the very spot I just left empty handed.

I've seen beetle spins at gas stations, hardware stores, liquor stores, even at a grocery store before.  You could buy just the arms and blades at BPS  (or at least you could a few years back).

i'm not sure what these worms are called, but look close to this one in the pic.  they're all over the leaves on trees in summertime.  anyways, when they're out, the smallmouth in the little tennessee river CRUSH these things, i mean it!  Throw one out on a hook and a sliding egg sinker and sit back and wait for your line to start peeling off.  

if you run out of the real worms, those beetle spins in that same color you pictured are a close #2 to the real thing.  always got to have a couple of them on hand for backups when the real worms are gone (yes i know, enter the i only fish artificial lures comments here ____)

They're like crack to smallmouths, and the chartreuse w/black stripes Bettle Spin imitates them pretty well.

Deadly on any kinda of fish!

The Johnson Beetle Spin, that is the very bait that got me into spinnerbaits at a very young age. It was the first artificial lure that I caught more than just one fish on.

I've caught more fish in my life on a beetle spin than any other lure.  I still have an ultra lite rod I take every trip with one tied on to avoid getting skunked.

Oh yeah...

I'll never forgive my parents for the summer we boiled hundreds of catalpa worms and rolled them in an egg/cornbread batter.  Most disgusting thing i've ever done.  Coincidentally, we caught more catfish that year than any other year of my childhood.
