That was his first fish of the day. At 21.5 by 20.75 you would think it might have been heavier than it was. A real piggy for sure. 

Jesus, that thing looks like it was eating softballs.  

Fished the St. Lawrence as a kid twice a year with my uncle and his kids back in the 80's. Those size smallies in that river didn't exist back then. If they did I don't think me or my uncle would have ever left.

That crazy FAT ALBERT bass looks like it's going to BURST !

And if it did I bet there would be GOBY sauce EVERYWHERE !

Most of the big smallies I see are coughing up alewife, white bass, perch, or craws.  Then again, I'm fishing for them a little deeper than the "goby zone."

Its gotta be the gobies. Lake Erie has been a big smallie factory since they took hold there. Now the St. Lawrence. Having fished it 30+ years ago many times I can tell you it was a numbers river but fish were small. BTW I showed the pic of the humungous smallie to my uncle and he couldn't believe bass in that river were that big. He told me if he didn't have RA we would be fishing that river tomorrow. 

I agree, the gobies changed the game, the size, the locations, and quantities - though differently on each of the GLs I've fished.  's just a funny observation I've made over and over - the fish I catch aren't puking up any gobies.

Also telling how tough the river has been this year.  He only caught 4 keepers, that blob, a 5 and two 2.5's. 

Wow that's a fat smallie! We have an 18 inch limit here. With a belly like that I could catch a 5lber in a tournament and have to throw it back

That fish has been certified as tying the NY State record.

Unbelievable, can't even get a scale calibrated.  How do they determine it was actually "8 lbs. 4 oz."???
