Snapped my JR Custom Frog rod and need to get one before my next tournament in two weeks (10/1).  If i could get a suggestion on one that is reasonably priced.  I would buy another JR but I can't afford that right now.  I'm sure it's way beyond it's warranty.

Don't know what happened, but it snapped about a foot from the tip on the hook set.  Using braid, so I still got the fish in, but that was an expensive catch

 

Veritas frog rod 7'6 medium heavy but fishes like a heavy . $100

First of all, and I am not saying you did this, but make sure the rod does NOT get past 11 o'clock on hookset or when fighting the fish. The rod blank will not withstand that kind of pressure.

Any good 7' to 7'6" rod in Heavy that has a little bit of a tip will work, cost has nothing to do with it. I use BPS Carbonlite rods, have a few rods coming from Favorite USA for T&E, but a buddy has a Lightning Rod that he has used the last 2 years, and another buddy has been using a BPS Bionic, and both of those rods are way under $100.

I use 70-6 and 76-7 Abu Villian 2.0 and a Lews Cutom Lite Magnum Grass.. 

 

If you want to save some money the tatula frog rod is 110 on Sportsmans outfitters site and is a great frog and all around heavy action rod. The tatula XT version of the same rod is only 80. 

If you have an Academy close, I use their 7' 3" H/F Ethos Micro and it's been the best frog rod I've ever owned. You might be able to find one of them on sale in store. The one I went to yesterday had Ethos rods on clearance, and anything on clearance was an additional 25% off at the register. I walked out with another Ethos Micro for $35. 

I use the lightning shock rod 7/6 heavy. Have not had a problem yet

I have 4 tatula rods,  they are my favorites,  I prefer them to my St.Croix mojos, I didn't like the xt version as much.  They are great rods I just really prefer the original Tatula. I have a veritas 2.0 that is scheduled to be delivered today.  I will let you know how it compares with my others one I get a chance to try it out. 

A use a 7' 6" Vendetta HF...more like an XH IMO but I like it. 

I use an H2O xpress ethos, 7' H/F.   Retail for $59.

Lots of good answers here.The truth is that you can have a decent frog rod for under $60 and one for +$400.Its based on you how much you want to spend on a frog rod and what makes you happy. As for me,my #1 frog rod is under $60 and I have caught plenty of +8 pound bass on it.

I agree with timsford. The Tatula frog rod from sportsman outfitter is a great deal. And a great rod. I bought one at the begining of the season and really like it.

The original Tatula 7'4" is suppose to be an excellent frog rod.  I've yet to get mine out fishing so can't give any opinion on it based on actual experience.  I went by the reviews and opinions of others.  The method I use for buying most of my rods.

Take a look at the Dobyns FR 735C for $110. Another great rod  is an Irod Genesis II  IRG 754F it is called Fred's Magic stick. All of the Genesis II rods are lightweight, well balanced, and have good components.. These go for $149.  Both of these two rods will fill the bill well if they fit in your budget. Dobyns has basically the same spec rod in each of their different model lines depending upon your budget. As you go up in their model lines the rods get nicer and get better components but all of them feel reel good in your hand.  My personal favorite is their Sierra series.  

Cabela's TZXC-73H Frog model. $96 now, but they had it for $80 a couple weeks ago. Probably upgraded it a little.

Going through my rods and I forgot I had a new Ardent Denny Brauer Frog/Buzzbait  7'4", Medium-Heavy Fast, so I guess I'll give that a try before I spend any money.

I assume you want a rod in the $100 range? I'd either go with a veritas frog rod, or if you want a better quality rod go with the Dobyn's Fury 735.

For more sparse vegetation - would a 7'3" MH work instead of a H ? ...Say a Dobyns 734 instead of a 735 ?

Sure, I used to use a 7' M/F St. Croix Premier for frogs because we don't have much heavy cover. It did okay, but I know I lost some fish because they were able to get their heads down into the cover. 

I happened to be at a Cabela's yesterday and held one of their ZX Frog rods (7'3" H /F) which seemed to be well made , balanced and light - not bad for $99 .

used the Ardent last weekend and it performed very well, so I'll save the money right now.
