Great Customer Service at BPS

Recommended Posts

Feel free to move if there is a better sub forum for this, but in a world where we seem to only hear the negative I felt this story was worth sharing. I took a buddy of mine to BPS pick out his first ever bait caster. Before getting there I taught him about centrifugal breaks, magnetic, and the tension spool just so he'd have an idea and I sort of settled on showing him the Pro Qualifier and the Lew's Speed Spool just because I have experience with them and he liked the price. Long story somewhat short, he is a righty but wanted a lefty reel and they were all out of just about every left handed reel they had (I'm assuming because it was a day after Black Friday and everybody went shopping crazy). He ended up getting the display model Lew's Speed Spool spooled up and when we came back the attendant looked extremely confused. He told us that something had gone wrong and the reel had "blown up" while spooling it. Being it was the manager that was helping us, he made the quick decision to sell my buddy an Abu Garcia Revo S ($129.99) for the price of the discounted display Lew's Speed Spool ($99.99 plus 10% off).

Needless to say, I was pretty happy with the end result. My buddy had yet to officially pay for the Lew's when spooling so I do believe the manager went above and beyond. Also, they apparently spool your reel for free if you let them use the BPS label XL mono. Being that it was his first baitcaster and backlashes were gonna happen, it was an awesome deal for him.

That is a good deal for him! I'm sure he will like the reel.

Shame on the guy that failed to spool the reel properly :lol1:

We do the same thing at Cabela's, we put free Cabela's mono on any reel someone purchases. I will admit that I've messed up on some people's stuff before too ;)

Thanks for sharing

I can say I've never had a bad experience at BPS anywhere across the country.

Glad you had a good BPS experience. I'd share some BPS customer service stories but you know what they say "If you don't have anything nice to say".

Some of the guys at my local BPS don't always seem too enthused to be there. Others are very knowledgeable if you get talking with them though.

I've had good experiences with their customer service as well. I had purchased a JM Gold Series casting reel that developed a very small tick while retrieving part way through the season. It wasn't bad, but since it was under warranty, I decided to turn it in. Unfortunately for me, they had discontinued the reel and didn't have any left at the DC. They ended up calling around and found they had one left in a store somewhere out on the west coast and had it shipped to me within a few days. Most places I've dealt with in the past would have just told me they didn't have any left to ship me so they could either try to fix it or just deal with it.

was putting a new reel on a new rod i just bought at BPS one day. ended up tightening the rod piece down too tight and splitting it, no way it would hold the reel after that. returned the rod the next week and they exchanged it no questions asked...

Since BPS opened in South Florida I have been satisfied with all customer service experiences I have had there.  I have returned at least 5 rods that have broken, or guide problems, some my fault. some equipment failure.  They have always replaces the idiom with few questions asked.  Years ago they replaced rods that were as much as 5 years old.  Now they date the rod so the clock is now running.  Great customer service!!!:happy-112:

BPS X2!

Received coupon in mail that if I went to BPS before and after Black Friday and bought something using the coupon I would receive 500 bonus points.

So, I went to the BPS Ashland, Virginia store on the 23rd and purchased one package of trailer hooks and used half of the 500 point coupon.

Went back on Monday and bought another package of trailer hooks and used the other half of the 500 point coupon.

I left my Rewards card home so I used my telephone number to get into the system on both occasions.

So far, so good. But wait! When the lady cashier was processing the purchase on Monday I noticed two spreadsheets on her monitor and she selected one to process the purchase. I got thinking about that when I got home and compared both sales receipts. They were different Rewards numbers.

So on Tuesday I made a third trip back to BPS and asked the lady in customer service if she could put my Monday sale with my Thursday sale so I could get the 500 points on my account.

She did better than that. First, she looked up my Rewards account via my telephone number and someone in Georgia with my same name popped up along with my Rewards account. Up on the screen popped up two Rewards accounts in my name. So she deleted my phone number on the other guy's account, leaving it on my account, only.

She then gave me 1,000 points for the inconvenience and confusion.

Glad your friend had a good response as I did with customer service at BPS.

Merry Christmas!

P.S. We figured someone at a BPS shop entered my phone number for the other guy some time ago. We could not figure out when. So double check your Rewards account just to be on safe side.

At the Manteca BPS I had brought in my own reel but bought some Berkley Nanofil from BPS to fill the spool with.  I asked the person working the reel area how much it would cost to spool the line and he said it was free!  I guess if you buy line from BPS they'll spool it up on any reel you bring in, whether or not you bought the reel at BPS or not.  I even tried to tip the guy for spooling the reel for me but he wouldn't take it.

Pretty good people at BPS. Never had too many problems. Their shipping time sort of sucks these days. Back in the 80's and 90's they seemed a lot faster. You get stuff on two day delivery and never even ask for that. The xl mono is half decent but not what it use to be 20 years ago. Curious is some of you guys agree with that. But I still buy the jumbo spools I change my line out like a maniac.
