Today was up into the mid 50s so i decided i would go to a local lake and bank fish a little bit. since i had just got a new package in from TW i thought i would fish some of my new baits and see how i like them. well the one i was super excited about was the Megabass Vision 110. ive heard so many great things about it but i wasnt really expecting to catch anything because im not that good with a jerkbait. but that is the main reason i wanted to toss it out so bad is so that i could learn a little bit more about how to fish it. well after working the lure back to me with some slow twitching of the rod and even some very slow just reeling it in near a boat ramp with deep water. well about 10-15 casts into fishing it i got caught on a rock. I tried everything i know to get that thing back, i even walked around it on both sides and tried to get it loose. then i remembered i had just bought some 2 oz weight and i knew i had some paperclips in my truck. i hook up my wight to my line and throw it as hard as i can down the line to knock it loose. all i hear is a big splash a few feet to my right. i look down and see my weight sitting in the water. so i stick my hand in the freezing cold water to get the weight back and try again. this time i throw it down and it slides straight down my line into the water and rocks... and nothing. so i pull a few more times and hear a pop.. my line breaks. $25 is not enough money for me to wade out into freezing water for so i cut my losses and load back up into the truck and have a very mad/sad drive home.  

 

if you read all that you are allowed to laugh at my misfortune, but it will be awhile before i do

We've all been there.

You need to watch Glenn's vedio on how to un snag a lure.

The 1st thing to do is lightly jiggle the lure free by shaking the the line using your rod tip with some slack line....before trying to pull it loose.

Using a weight you carefully attach the weight to the line and hold your rod tip high so the weight slides down your to the lure, now your use your rod to bounce the weight up and down to free the lure.

If you own chest high waders and the water isn't too deep, go retrieve it!

Just kidding!  I've lost too many $16 LC Pointers to pike, and I get mad when that happens so I'm not going to spend $25 on a MB Vision 110, no way.  I'd blow a gasket losing those.  But, I will buy Luck E Strike RC STX instead.

It happens. We have all been there. I just posted in another thread about losing my first Lucky Craft (Staysee 90) on the first cast. That one stung a little...

Last one for me was a Rapaly Husky Jerk 7 casts in.It was to windy and i knew it.Nice gust put it in a tree.Luckily only 8 bucks

Nothing stings quite like losing a premium lure on your first outing with it, before you've even been able to land a fish on it. 

Id feel better If I even got a bite first.

I've lost a lot of expensive lures. Makes me sick to my stomach lol. But, that's life. Use tax returns to replace them lol.

Use a 110 replica knockoff or cheaper bait from shore. 

Last two trips out I have broken off a crankbait in brush. Hung out for 10 seconds both times and it floated up 

I have a handful of 110s. Now it seems like they are just sitting in the boxes on a shelf collecting dust. I too am using less expensive jerkbaits and have found some good deals on LC pointers and other less pricey yet equally affective offerings.

The LC pointed are still expensive,but still 10 bucks cheaper than the 110.

Almost exactly thing happened to me with my brand new LC pointer. I even got into water half wet and use my rod tip tried to un-snag it. It was almost at my reach but in order to retrives it I have to dive down. I didnt but use home made knocker and poof the line broke.

 

maybe 5 mins later I saw a big fish jump where my lure snag. I think he got away with my lure there.

Absolutely. And I have picked up some used baits and NIP pointers for roughly about $8 a piece. So when you are getting a premium bait for about 1/2 the price it makes it easier to use them.

 

Now for the guys that fish waters lined with toothy fish this would probably be the only way I would want to use them but at the same time I would also have a handful of cheaper baits on hand.

Get another one from joe's bait and tackle, they are currently 10% off.  You will be glad you did.

I still have one of the megabass S cranks but I think I might make that into a keychain so I don't lose it as quickly lol. But like everyone has said, its a part of fishing. I don't see myself buying anymore MB stuff in the near future unless there is something magical about that crank I have. SK lures work fine for me as of now and I don't feel sick if I get it hung up.

Had a toothy critter experience with not one bug two shadow raps. First one I caught a bass and missed a few. Then all of a sudden saw a solid musky strike the lure and I brought back empty line. Three months later new lure third or fourth cast another big musky empty line. 

 

I too hate losing cranks before their time and can definately relate. The only expensive lures I now throw from shore are topwaters and when throwing jerkbaits I have a steel leader on, a little diminished action is better than cut line.
